What might be the most useful knife (most utility) according to shape?

Sorry i meant the blade shape.

don't quite understand - but i would say most useful blade shape is probably drop point with a plain edge around 2.5-3 inches.

Mini-rukus
para-millie
millie
JYD-II

All work very well.

I'm partial to fully flat-ground drop-point blades about 3" in length. Great for most tasks, from kitchen work to opening packages and breaking down boxes. I like to have more than one blade shape around though, so often times, I'll keep a stockman in my pocket. That sheepsfoot blade is wonderful for breaking down boxes.

I use a three blade sowbelly stockman the most. I find the shape of the frame most comfortable and the choice of three different blades a benefit.

Of the three blades I use the sheepfoot blade the most.

What shape is the boker RNR, one of CLB's design? thats a pretty good shape, with the curve and still keeping a good tip

Not really feeling that RNR's blade shape. Talk about one heck of a sweep/belly. Looks like it'd be a real pain to sharpen, and I don't think I'd make much use of that pseudo-recurve.

I'm thinking generic kitchen knife, anything in 4-6" range. Probably gets used the most.

That is a wide open question. Most useful for what? What price range? You get the idea. And what may be most useful for ME, may be be most useful for YOU.

This is like asking what's the best knife. If you're speaking blade shape then I think the drop point will prove the most utility in general chores.

I love a straight handle for control and power. Most usefull blade would be a drop point, but I like a higher point with more belly myself. The drop point would be good for almost anything.

I find that the clip blade on a 4" stockman cuts pretty much everything I need cut. It will cut things that my larger knives won't. Because the Stockman clip blade is narrow, it fits into places that the wider one-hand blades won't. So I can get a place to start the cut from much more easily.

Case Slimline Trapper or Queen Utility knife. Three inch clip blade, long enough for light kitchen use and easy to pocket.
