Mother-in-law put my knife in the dish washer

It's stainless steel and micarta, what got ruined? Can you post a pic??

Sounds like a tempest in a tea cup.

I guess that fiber liner between tang and micarta got ruined.

Also steel go damaged.
Intergranular Corrosion is the key to understand it. Some stainless steels can get completely wasted by this process.

Ok, thanks for your comments. I didn't speak with the mil. I will say the knife has an extremely thin hollow grind. The edge was ruined. This knife was washed and dried by me and then placed in the dishwasher by the mil. We already don't get along which is probably my real issue.

I think that is your problem, as you had NO reason to get upset at someone over something that was your fault.
She was trying to help, and if you didn't want it in the dishwasher you should have told her.
Do you think she should be able to read your mind ?

You said you didn't talk to her. You need too. If she or your wife know you got upset for something that was your fault you need to apologize to both, and soon.
And if she's letting you live with her, or helping out at your house, you need to thank her for that too.

Is it to much to just ask her for the 50 bucks?

Jeez; I really, really hope you're kidding. :(

Me too !!!

Get a piece of 1000 grit wet dry sand paper and spend a few minutes cleaning up the handle. Take a couple of minutes to sharpen the blade. If your knife is designed in such a way that the liners will swell when exposed to moisture then that is a design flaw. The epoxy should be good to 300+ F. Even the non stainless, high carbon knives will survive an occasional trip through the dishwasher. Although cleaning them up is a pain. If this remains an issue get a Spyderco in H1. Don't gripe over something that will take you 5 minutes to clean up. It is an Urban Myth that a trip through the dishwasher will ruin the majority of modern knives. Although I admit there are some (works of art) that will be devalued, your Boker should not be one of them.

Maybe if you did your own dishes she wouldn't of washed the wrong knife (That's not a kitchen knife but you use it in the kitchen I guess she should of know that). Either way shit happens.

Sorry, just re-read that the knife was a dedicated kitchen knife. I thought the MIL just happened across it and decided to wash it with the rest of the kitchen knives. My bad.

Unless you have really high end kitchen knives, they will survive A (singular) ride in the dishwasher.
