Mother passed away

Very sorry to hear that. I lost my father very early but I don't know what I'd do without my mom.

My condolences to you, and your Dad. My Dad suffered through Alzheimers for the last year or so of his life (but cancer got him first)

Keep a close eye on your Dad - after that long (my parents were married 55 years), they really become a team, and one fills in the weak spots of the other. Mom had cancer the last 2 years of her life, and when she died, Dad just fell apart. There were a lot of things she could do mentally, that Dad couldn't do, but he could do some physical things she could not.

It's going to be tough for both of you. Yes, it would be good to spend as much time as possible with your dad. He might feel like he lost his life now that she's gone.

My sincere condolences for your loss. Alzheimer's is a terrible disease, and it affects a huge percentage of Western Society. The monetary costs of care for the patients run in the billions annually, and the emotional, human costs to the patients and family members cannot be estimated. And with the aging population, the problem is getting worse.

This is a disease that will become treatable within decades. Western society depends on it. The money spent on AD research is but a drop in the bucket compared to treatment costs--and most western countries realize that.

I am truly sorry that we were not in time for your Mom.
We may be in time for her grandchildren, though.
 
Very sorry to hear about your loss. I lost my youngest sister before CHRISTmas with the same illness your mom had. God will provide.

Prayers sent Mark, to you and your Father. I know that it's been rough on my Father since my Mother passed a few years ago. I check up on him by phone 3 times a week since he lives in MN and I'm in NJ. Those are folks who knew the meaning of marriage beyond the piece of paper:thumbup:
 
Thank you everyone for the condolences. We just returned home last night. It was tough, but at least we know that mom is freed from her Alzheimers now. While at the gravesite, my 9-year-old daughter turned to me and said, "your mommy died, Daddy. I'm sorry." That touched me more than words can speak.
