Motor Direction change

I need most advice from someone who knows a little bit about electrical motors.

I just got my cootes grinder in the mail and this mourning I built a platform for it, well I made the platform mounted the motor and the grinder without checking the motor rotation  . The motor is now going the wrong direction, it is a 1phase motor so I believe if I just swap the wire nuts in the case and change the electrical polarity the motor will turn the other way. Am I correct or do I need to redo the platform so the motor sits the other way? The platform has already been mounted to a table and was designed for space conservation, I would hate to have to redesign it now.

I'm trying to make this a learning experience so some thing good can come of it.

There should be a diagram in the wiring housing that will show how to reverse the motor, I did that too with my kmg...

J, take a look at the name plate on the motor. This is where all of the importatnt info about the motor can be found, including notes about rotation. If your motor is both CW and CCW then the name plate will have a note and diagram for the wiring. It may say something like "CCW shown, reverse yellow and blue for CW rotation"

Or, post the info on your motor...make/model number and we can probably do a web search for the specs.

Congrats and Good luck,
Rob

thanks for the input guys, I got it fixed.

Ps; Norm Cootes makes an awsome grinder ;)

Yeah and if you wanna get crazy, but a switch between the motor and grinder to make it go in both directions!

I have had my coote for about a year and its great, I got the three step drive pully and the better palaten and have been very happy. Good luck

Another suggestion is to try the norton blaze belts, I just ground 8 blades with a used belt, got a little hot but worked.
