Motor for belt grinder

So I have been going over options for piecing together a belt grinder and I came across a treadmill on Facebook marketplace that someone is just giving Cybex 750T away. It is probably 7k brand new, but of course I am really interested in the motor.

Anyways, the motor for this machine is supposed to be a "6 HP brushless AC motor". Is this something I could use for a grinder at least temporarily considering it would be free? I know it is not enclosed, but I might be able to get some mileage out of it before it craps out huh?

Seriously doubt it's a true 6hp. Soon as my 3hp ac motor comes in the mail and I order a vfd mon or tue I'm cutting the treadmill motor off my grinder and never looking back. Better than the HF 1x30, but not by much. Mine says 5hp on it. Still trying to figure out where the other 4.5 are.

Look at the amps drawn to get an idea of the true HP. On many things they state a fictitious "rated HP". Shop vacs and routers are two examples. Many 5 and 6HP motors in this category actually deliver around 1 HP.

While you can take a treadmill apart and use the motor, it is a very different motor than the type you need for a grinder. The difficulty of modifying it and getting the speed control to work is high, ... and the motors are not TEFC, so they tend to go Kablooey fairly soon.

Thanks for the replies guys, I did not get it...I'm just going to save up for the real deal and use my 2x48 Dayton in the meantime.

Fwiw,
Most higher-end treadmills are constructed of alot of mechanical goodies what can be utilised in building shop equipment.
My vibratory tumbler is primarily made of 'ally extrusion, bearingblocks, speedcontrol & motor salvaged from a treadmill.

Your example of a brushless treadmill motor sounds very interesting. Being a brushless, it might be fairly well sealed.
