As some of you guys know I have fallen out of love with my grinder, a craftsman 2x42. Can that motor be used for the Mickley's NWG? Inquiring minds want to know. Thanks.

nope, sorry, not enough power.

check motor repair places for a 1.5hp rebuilt or farm supply like TSC where they go for around $190.

Oye Poncho......I'm sure you know down Tejas way where you can find yourself a 1 1/2 HP motor...check Craigslist.com......bunch on there.....
I kept asking around for a motor for a leather slicker and a bud gave me a 1 hp just to get rid of me....whining is good:thumbup:

Rayban, Thanks for the plans, and I will check out craigslist. Now I just gotta make the case to the the Bank lady, I mean my wife.:D

I ordered a 2hp 3600rpm motor from Grizzly on Friday (thanks for the tip, gixxer!) for $129. They have an 1800rpm 3hp for the same price! I also bought that exact VFD with plans of building a clean box with face panel controls. Everything should be here on Tuesday, and my KMG will be here probably the next week! Just under $300 and a little work to build an enclosure for a full NEMA 4X equilvalent 2hp VFD setup is a heck of a deal, if you ask me.

Nathan, I actually found the DPST and DPDT switches at Depot, kinda surprised me. Check by the breakers, outlets and plugs. But you might still have to get the 10k pot from Radio Shack. I did not have the time to look for the pot. I might check the lighting section today or tomorrow.

Hey, on the pot. Get a 5 turn pot instead of a single. It takes 5 complete turns to go from 0 to 10k and that you way more speed adjustment control. I have them on my belt and disk grinder both and love them.

Thanks for the tips, fellas! I'll probably make a run to my neighborhood Radio Shack to pick up the switches and pot. Gixxer, I was reading through the instruction manual for the VFD, and it's a bit above me without actually having the drive to look at yet. I'm curious as to how I'm going to wire it all up. Do you mind if I drop you a line if I run into any snags?

Standby... If you look at the manual and the pic in this thread I am about to post you can figger it out. I need to dig it up.

The 5 turn pot sounds awesome! I need to check that out.

Thanks. I appreciate it! I think I'm piecing it all together now. The motor and controller will be here Tuesday. Now if I can just get that darn grinder here....I've never been given to patience. :D I'm expecting it probably next week sometime.
