any help with this motor would be great as if its good i will get it tomarow. thanks everyone

The motor is an ODP compressor motor, an ODP motor would be common on a drill press. Dayton should be rating their motors very close to actual output. Remember that neither AC nor DC motors are 100% efficient, you can probably expect something more like 60 or 70% in a good motor. If you don't try to account for less than 230 volts, 60% efficiency puts the motor just shy of 3HP @ 16amps, I'd say it is rated accurately. The service factor of 1.00 is also a good indicator that you're not getting more than 3HP out of it.

I'd probably not buy it just to salvage the motor, it would probably be a really nice drill press to have though.

I would want a TEFC motor on a grinder, personally. Does this motor have a fan?
