Motor selection

Hopefully it'll be all put together in the next month so I can play with it. And if I do start tripping my circuit breaker... well then that may be the motiviation I need to get an electrician out to run a beafy 230 circuit to the garage anyways, since I'd like to be able to pick up a stick welder sometime soon too, and all the decent buzz boxes take 230 circuits.

Hopefully the difference between my single stroke compressor at the 16.5-17 amp (i believe it's a 1.5hp compressor duty motor), and the motor at 20 isnt too much. *cross fingers*

Looks like I wont be going with that motor anyways. Apperantly HF is backorderd 2 months on the 2hp motor. >_<

Ah well. I guess i'll wait 3 weeks and watch ebay, and if nothing crops up i'll catch the HF opening in RI in 3 weeks and get one of the 1hp ones there, and save the shipping as well.

Justin, you apparently are not receiving emails through this site. Send me an email through my profile and I'll point you to a good deal on a motor. If I post the link here, it will be gone before you'll be able to see it.

Ok email incomming (i hope) lets hope that the board email system isnt broken again. (you can also get me via email by adding @gmail.com to the end of my forum name)

Ok one last question if anyone can answer. Is there any prefrence between a Baldor motor and a Leeson? =) Watching a few motors on ebay and whatnot, but dont know if either of those 2 have a better reuptaion than the other.

Justin, FWIW, I have both and no problems with either brand in years of use.

I think either will last you many, many years. When I was looking. Every major motor place said Baldor was better than Lesson but had nothing bad to say about Lesson. I actually purchased a used Lesson off ebay and it is great.

Ok, thank you all for the advice and help. After my aborted attempt at getting a motor from HF which ended up being on backorder, I've decided to go with a 1hp baldor 5/8" shaft motor from electricmotorsite.com in addition to a 5/8" 4-3-2 step pulley and a 5/8" 6-5-4 step pulley.

I'm going to place my order for a Coote in the next few days as well. Then I should be all set outside of getting myself some belts =)
