Great pics - I wish my dad was the hiking type. Oh well, at least I'll be able to take my son as he gets older.

Looks like a beautiful trip, those roots are crazy looking.

What's that binder clip's purpose?

What's that binder clip's purpose?

The leather was a little loosened over time so the clip allows for easy and safe pocket carry.....David's convex grind scares the hell out of me!

Woah, I did not expect this sort of response!:o

thanks guys!

kgd: I hope this works for you!

rcinclair: by the time my dad got up the trail his knee was acting up again.:( We plan on hiking the trail a few more times before it gets too icy.....so we will eventually get into New hampshire!:D

awesome pics... that looks like a gorgeous area.... i really dig that root shot too...:D

That looks like a great hike. That's cool that you got to make the trek with your Dad.

I'm into the roots too
The view from the top looks beautiful as well. What a great time of year to be out :D

Thanks again everyone! :)

The weather was surprisingly warm! I brought four fleece layers and a shell and only needed my t-shirt. I bet that will change soon....

Making me homesick!

I used to hike Watatic (and the rest of the Wapack Trail) all the time in high school. Of course, that was many many years ago.

I'll never forget my first time: we hiked in along part of the Wapack from the old ski place about 5-6 miles away. It was fairly rough going and there weren't many good trail signs, cairns, or paint on the trees to guide you, so we wasted some time looking for the trail and back-tracking. Made the top of Watatic at sunset and were too tired to cook dinner (you could camp up there back then). Then, all of a sudden, two trucks showed up with about 15 drunk townies who proceeded to build bonfires, climb the tower, and party late into the night. We didn't even know there was a jeep road and a shorter (1-2 mile) trail up there!

thanks for the pics man. how did you like the mac and cheese.....? I like the chilli mac myself. I dig that you use a pocket rocket stove. I have the same stove. I have taken it on 8 or nine backpacking trips and never have had a problem...

The Mac and Cheese was excellent! I like making it with a bit more water to tone down the saltiness a bit. The PR stove is a favorite and with that two man cookset it fits nicely in a bowl.....

Looks like a great lil trip. I hope my daughter will still take hikes with me when she gets older.

That root system pic is wicked!
