Ok, so I'm kinda getting cabin fever with my bike being out of commission. I need to get the fork rebuilt, but don't quite got the cash yet, so it sits in my garage.

So, help a brother feed his mountain bike depression. Lets see your bikes and trails, and tell us a little about them.

I'll start.

Right now, I'm riding a Santa Cruz Blur XC, fun light bike that climbs great.

This is a trail up in Mtnfolk mike's country, from earlier this year. These pics taken right before I broke my hip. This a super fun single track trail with some roots, narrow squeazes, and log bridges. Oh, and it's mostly all going down.

Mike looks so happy to be riding doesn't he?

Here's some more recent ones of a couple trips to Santa Teresa Park in San Jose. This park has got a nice mix of single track and fireroads, you can put together any combination of loops, all of which will feature some steap climbing, and most of the single track has some really technical rock gardens that are horribly tough to climb, but fun to descend.

This is from the top of my stand-by ride. At 1200 feet it has a nice view of the bay area on a clear day. It's all fireroad, so not a ton of fun, but a good work out with a 1,000 foot climb in 4 miles, and the whole ride is about 12 miles. (taken with cell phone, sorry)

My current bike is a Gary Fisher Superfly 29er but I'm thinking of upgrading to the full-suspension model. I really love the steering geometry and handling. Also the light weight, good climbing, and the ability of the 29 inch wheels to more easily roll over ruts, etc.

I still have an older Marin 26" full-suspension bike. Sturdy, reliable bike but it weighs ten pounds more than the Superfly. I used it on a car shuttle ride in Angeles Forest that involved about 100 v.ft. of climbing and around 3,000 v.ft. of descending. After getting the Superfly, the Marin is a loaner and downhiller only.

I ride mostly on local trails in the Santa Monica Mountains but have gone to Mt. Pinos too.

When I was hunting in Montana I saw a photo of two guys walking a deer out of the backwoods on an abandoned logging road using two mountain bikes. They had lashed some poles between the bikes and put the deer on the poles.

My hunting buddy dropped a cow elk 9 miles back from the trailhead (and boned it out). First day he backpacked out about 70 lbs of meat and the next day he got a mountain bike within a mile of the kill site so he could ride out the rest (which weighed a bit more). Thankfully it was about 98% down hill!

I don't ride, but while fly fishing the Salmon River in upstate NY, I shot these guys having a good time while crossing:

Wow...that's cool.

I'll be floating by on my yaks...riders must provide external lateral propulsion..LOL

I ride solo, and never take any pics. My current bike is a Giant NRS. I'm going back to hardtail when the tax return comes in the beginning of the new year. The full suspension bike is nice, but since I lost 45lbs, I want a <20lbs bike.

Oh hell yeah!

Heres my fixie, not a mtn bike but still a sweet steed. A 74 Motobecane Grand Touring frame built up by me.

Hey Jake - is that a Hardrock? I love mine! I've yet to do the fix conversion but still want to. I love my disc brakes!!!!

Yeah thats a Hardrock.....Parted it out awhile back when I built the Surly.

It was a great bike!

Im in the process of building a disc wheelset for the Surly....

Cables or fluid? I've got cable discs - they need to get adjusted a bit, but are still working great.

I really like it stripped of the stickers.

That Hardrock frame is bomb proof - brotha!

Thanks for the pics.

It just dawned on me that I have a pic of my first good MTB after a ride. My friends and I would seek out the muddiest patches we could find when we hit the woods. :D While it's still not on the trail you might enjoy it. Sorry for the poor quality but it's a pic of a pic (no scanner).

The timeframe is late 1990 and the bike is definitely old school... :)

Im thinkin hydro... Im liking the Avid Juicys, or maybe the Maguras....

Thanks man!!!

I have the Avid Juicy Ultimates on my Fisher and they are very smooth. A little trickier to adjust than mechanically actuated brakes.

Some very nice bikes in this thread! If nothing else, you all have some good taste.

I don't do much riding, but I would like to. My current ride is a Trek 3700; which is a hard tail. I was looking for something that could handle both blacktop and fire roads equally well; but not break the bank. There is not much decent trail riding in my little corner of the world, but a ton of two wheeled exploring to be had.

I ruptured my Achilles Tendon running marathons. I'm about two months post-op right now and am thinking the sun is probably setting on my running days. I'm hoping to be able to do a lot more biking next summer.

Hope you recover quickly, and also get more time in the saddle....

Thanks for the compliments bro.

I know several places deep in the Appalachians that are ripe pickings full of survival resources due to the piles of broken bike parts. Given a Leatherman and some time to work on it you might even be able to assemble a bike.

I remember being in one such place and two very bloody men walked past with bikes on their shoulders. I had to admire their dedication.

Nice photos.
