Mountain Bikes?

Thanks guys! I'm pretty sure I'll end up going with something from bikes direct, though the gf's uncle is big into bikes, so I'm going to talk to him before I buy anything:thumbup:

Zero Time, if I had a place big enough, I'd be all over that! I don't have the room at the place I'm at now, but hopefully I'll be buying a place this year or next. It may not have a spare room, but I'm going to get a place big enough to set up a big tent or two out back!

I definitely appreciate the advice, all!

If you are considering Bikes Direct I will also suggest FORGE Mountian bikes (Forge .com). You order these through Target .com but they will be delivered to your home. They have all Quality components and you get alot for your money (just remember some assembly required).

It's been mentioned before but if you're going to mail order a bike it's worth mentioning again. You really should go to a bike shop and get fitted. If you buy a bike that doesn't fit you well it won't be comfortable to ride and it'll likely end up gathering dust.

Yep! That's definitely in the plan, because it sure seems that there are a couple of different ways to measure bikes. The online 'suggestion' for my height is 19", but the at Wally-world the 24" bikes were too small to be comfortable:confused:

24'' is for kiddies lol. 19'' is adult sizing, and it's the size of my bike too. 5'10-6' I've heard for 19''

Don't confuse tire size with frame size, it's a common mistake. A 24" frame is a huge bike. In my experience the top tube length is the most important measurement.

Also, some of the manufacturers measure from different reference points... i.e. center of the top tube, top of the seat collar.

Be careful. :)
