Googling Green River Knives the other day, I came across this website:

Malachite's Big Hole

It has a good selection of info regarding the MM era. Follow some of the links buried in the text for additional pages. Pretty interesting stuff, I though some of you would like it too.

Thanks, the mountain men are what got me interested in knives in the first place!

:confused:I'm really surprised there isn't more interest in the Mountain Men, fascinating wilderness survivors, in this forum.

i added it to my favs, will scan through it later. i love Mnt. Man history, those were the REAL men of the west. thanks - Eric

BORROWED TIME - "... i love Mnt. Man history, those were the REAL men of the west."

Yes indeed... of the far West. But in fact, they had nothing whatsoever on the "real" men (and women) who fought for, settled, and survived in the "forest West" of the "western frontier" of Kentucky, Pennslyvania, Ohio, Illinois, etc., etc., long before the fur trappers went into the Rocky Mountains, and the southwest.

In the "western frontier" forests, the various tribes of the Iroquois Confederation, The Algonquin Confederation, and the Southern forest tribes, killed far, far more settlers, hunters, trappers, explorers, than did the Indians of the far western plains and mountains.

It was extremely dangerous out there, no matter the geographic area.

I have deep respect for all the people who "went West."

FWIW.
