I'm watching now, very interesting with plenty of real survival skills. Looks like an extremely rough life, I guess I like just being a part time woodsbum :o

Thanks for the heads up. I watch HC quite a bit but never saw this advertised. I have it scheduled to tape later on tonight, can't wait to see it.

Seems like a great show, I enjoyed it. I bet they will replay it throughout the week too so you can catch the first one. I especially like that Eustace Conway is on it, I remember reading about him years ago.

Is this what you are talking about?

Not if they are talking about a recent production. The narrator of that one, Pernell Roberts (Adam Cartright) died two years ago January (in 2010). That documentary dates to 1999. Maybe they are rerunning it?

I think it is the new show on history about modern Mountain Men, I watched it last night, it was Ok!

As much as I tried to like it, I didn't. It's just something about using 45-minutes of the show on the run-away dog that always comes back with fear of bear mauling. Tie the dog down before you open the door at night? Just a waste. Too much fake drama.

I found the whole show pretty mundane. I doubt I will watch another episode unless I see it on and just switch over to it.

It was ok. I can see gaining some knowledge from it, as long as the man and woman quit talking about bears every time the camera comes back to them.

I watched this one the other day and really enjoyed it, some great tales of true survival !

Why do all these types of shows have to have manufactured drama? I watched it and I really wanted to like it, but fell asleep and had to re-watch it. Marty Meierotto was featured on the cover of Field & Stream a while back, plus he's a regular with the Alaska Trappers Association. Google him if you want a lot of good stories. Unfortunately, at least for me, this show didn't feature a lot of the stuff I wanted to see. Too much fluff & stuff drama for the casual observer.

I haven't seen the show, But Eustace lives in the next county over, bout 30 minutes away. I've been wantin' to go meet him but I hear he's kinda an ass in person...

Haven't seen the show but Eustace used to come to our school on occasion. He was very good friends with our art teacher and I remember him fleshing out a deer hide in front of our class once. He had just killed it locally. We're about six hours away from where he lives and when he came down he'd bring a tepee to stay in if I remember correctly. He tried to teach us a little about the outdoors and his lifestyle. This was a long time ago and I was impressed with his ideas of living off the land, though many of my friends could have cared less. Some of his tips have stayed with me even to this day.

I'll have to catch the show sometime.
