Hi guys, haven't posted here in a while do to some health probelms and do to the fact that I have been spending a lot of my time and money on alox SAK collecting, but I've got something for ya'll today.

A good friend of mine who I met here on the Forums lives over in Singapore. Recently he took a vacation to visit family and to go and look after his ailing father in Sweden. While he was there he picked up the three knives pictured below and sent them to me as a gift for a couple of things I handled for him back here in the states. He did this without me knowing about it until he sent me an E-mail telling me to be looking for an international UPS package that had something inside for me.

I am telling you all of this because it was done by a guy whose hand I have never shook, and whose face I have never seen, and he went out and searched for these specific knives at numerous stores all while he was spending most of the rest of the day and night ny the bedside of his dying father. His father did pass away (may he rest in piece), and my new friend is now back home with his family.

I would like to take the time to thank you Jorgen for sending me this gift and I want you to know that it is very much appreciated, and you are one of the few "Good Guys" left out there. A toast to you my friend.....single malt of course!

Now, for the knives. If you like the ever utlitarian Mora, you would LOVE these knives. They are Hultafors knives of which I do not at this time know the exact model or what they are called. They measure 8 7/8" overall with a blade length of 3 5/8". The blade thickness at the spine measures .116". These are tough, well built heavy duty knives. There is no doubt that they would take much more abuse than my Moras.

Nice. What are the sheaths like for these new toys? Hopefully they are whole lot better made.

Never mind I found my answers from the other post. Thanks for sharing.

As a fan of Moras, i can appreciate the function over form aspect of these. The handles are a LITTLE too pedestrian for me(they look like cheap steak knives my mom buys from target), but if they work just as well as my Mora clipper, i would love to pick up one.

They look a great functional knife and it's good to hear that a mutual interest in knives can form friendships of the kind you now have !

By the way are the handles really pink or is that just your pic.....if they are it may be a great way to get our better halves to share our hobby !!!!

Hey guys. To answer a few of your questions.

They are Grovkniv GK models. I looked at the sticker on the back of the sheath and that is what it says, I just didn't realize it was a model designation.

The sheaths are well built and seam like they would hold up quite well. The knives snap in with a pretty solid tug needed to remove them.

As to the color of the handles. No, they are not pink. They are red. Actually they are what I would call "brick red", kind of a darker medium red if that makes sense.

The handles on these knives really feel good in the hand as well.

No worries Tolly! But it's Sweden- not Switzerland. :) And you are the real Good Guy, therefore I could only try my best to help you.

Anyway, enjoy your Hultafors!

Regards,

Jorgen

Good stuff, those. The Hultafors knives are all over the place here - some shops have replaced all their Moras with them, curiously enough.

The knives are the GK, Grovkniv, Heavy duty knife.
They are actually from the first production. The current ones have green handles.
They cost about 60 swedish kronor in the stores around here. They are much easier to find than the Mora 780 :)
There is a smaller version HK, Hantverkskniv, carpenters knife, that has an orange (earlier light red) handle. It cost about 30 Swedish kronor.

There are also special sheath combos with HK+HK, HK+GK and HK+EK (electricians knife)

@Eric: I wonder who is sending you Hultafors knives?

Maybe I should go out and buy a bucket full, they seem to be very popular. To send to nice people for christmas. I can get both the old and new models :)

They're sweet. I wish there was a US dealer though.

OK. I bought one anyway. The thick guy (3mm). Can't wait to see what I got!

Edited to add. 1 mm = 40 mils (0.040"). So the ones pictured are what I bought.
