Hint time: This movie was "hot" in 1988, the lead actor in this civil rights film has won 2 Academy Awards one for The Royal Tenenbaums one for playing a sheriff in The Unforgiven. In this movie the lead was "on fire" and received an Academy Award nomination for his role as an FBI agent in this movie.
