Movie: The Patriot , a fitting movie for this past holiday.

I saw this movie. I don't care about the history or the psuedo-history. I laughed, I cried, I was moved. Movies are bigger than life when they are done right. This one was done right and I was uplifted by the truths it illuminated. People try their hardest to live as righteously as possible but there are times and places where it is demanded we stand up and be counted. Whether it be voting or helping kids at risk or stating an unpopular opinion, there are times we must act. I am slow to anger myself and identify with Mel Gibson's trying to avoid past pain and suffering. But.... there comes a time when restraint must go and action is called for. I hope if I ever face the question I will be able to do what is necessary. Thanks for starting this thread Broken Arrow. Hope things are going well with you and yours. Blessings

Jaeger and Wild Bill hit the nail on the head. I don't think anyone here is suggesting that we should take The Patriot as a history lesson (although I wouldn't be so unrealistic or naive as to presume that nothing like that ever happened). It was simply meant to be an inspiring story, and that it is.

Very insightful, mohd, thank you! I loved the Patriot, even if it was total fiction, stories of men who pit their will against overwhelming odds will always get to me. Must be the Highland blood!

Riddle me this----

I'm Glad the Hon. WJC can include on his resume' he volunteered to go to Vietnam, even if it was 33 years after the majority of us had already volunteered. Khukuri connection-- I wish I'd had my WWII back then. Blessing to all and Stay Safe.

You know Greg, just the other day I was looking at Billy Clanton's nose on the TV and told my wife that Pinnochio was right - you do get a longer nose every time you lie!

Far as the Patriot,I've not yet seen it, but as A. K. Coomaraswamy said: " Myth embodies the nearest approach to absolute truth that can be stated in words. "

Or even better, as a young girl once said: "... a myth is a story that's true inside. "

If it is entertaining, if it teaches truth and values and how to live your life, whether it is fact or fiction, it is worth reading or seeing to me. " Tell me a story " - especially one with symbolism and meaning about where I fit in the universe, something I'll love and remember even if I don't understand it at the time, enriches me, and gives me an example to try to emulate, even subconsciously.

This Is a VERY GOOD movie! I watched it a few hours ago and it makes you think about all the things the men and their families went through.

I felt it was my obligation to support this movie, so I saw it in the theatre with a forum member friend.

Great flick. Incidentally, Mel was paid more for this movie than any previous actor has ever received. He deserved it. This movie was too moving, in many places, to be wildly enjoyable for me. It felt real, not like mere escapism. It also showed the reluctance good men often have to engage, but the consequences when you force them to fight.

I will be buying the DVD for my brother for Christmas.
