I was just reading the post "Tale Of The Knife" by Kirch, when, this thought popped into my little head.

Do any of you find yourself (while watching a movie) looking for knives, and when finding, evaluating/commenting on these knives???

If so, which movies (and respective knives come to mind??

The first time that I saw Platoon, I was intrigued with the push dagger that Tom Berringer used to cut Charlie Sheen's face.
I always looked for a quality dagger to purchase for years after that. No luck. Everything that I came across was a POS. I finally came across Cold Steel who sold the Safekeeper. I bought one. (Awesome knife by the way!!!)
Then, about a year later, I found out that the actual dagger used in this film was, in fact, a Safekeeper from CS.
Funny how things work sometimes. Isn't it??

Please share your feelings on this subject.
I would love to hear them.
Hopefully there are others out there who are as crazy as me!!!

Movies and TV shows. Any of the "real life" cop shows are good for a knife or two. Have seen Spydercos and Cold Steel mainly.

ALL THE TIME!

My wife has gotten to the point where, when they use a knife in a movie, she just looks at me, waiting for my comments. Just watched Double Jeopardy last night and saw Ashley Judd (hubba hubba) pick up a bloody knife off the deck of the sailboat. Thought it looked like some kind of puuko-styled fillet knife. Didn't get a close enough look at it to tell for sure and my wife draws the line at stopping the movie and rewinding to get a better look. Also remember Steven Segall using a Gerber Mark II in a knife fight in Under Siege II.

Best knife-related line from a movie:
"I can't believe you stabbed me with that cheap piece of mail-order crap!"
James Caan to Arnold Schwarzenegger in Eraser

Hah! My wife's gotten to the point where she points out the knives. She may not be a knife knut (nor is it likely she ever will be) but at least she can recognize a Spyderco knife when it's in a movie or on TV.

My wife also points out the knives to me as well. I think it comes from a desire to actually see me happy!!!

However, I too would probably get at least a look (if not a comment) if I were to stop the movie and rewind.

Oops!!! The wife just walked in. She says that I can rewind once only!!
I'll take that!!

She also said that obsession and rewinding is nothing new for me. She says that it just used to be naked women, now it's knives!!

I don't see the difference between the two.
They are both beautiful, sharp, and will hurt you if you mistreat them.

My favorite was while watching "Kiss the Girls" with Ashley Judd. Bad guy in the cave pulls out a dual edged dagger, wife looks at me with "the look" and I reply "SOG Pentagon, I got 2 in the office, wanna see??"

It is a full time obsession ladies and gentleman, it doesn't stop when the movie starts.

I just saw one a couple of days ago. Forget the show, but the bad guy used a Buck General. Not bad taste, for a bad guy!

I also find myself piping up when someone is in a situation that they could use a knife, and saying, "Now, if that guy had a blade on him, he could just cut the cord and free himself!" or "If that woman just had a one-hand opener, she'd be out of there in a jiffy!" or "Instead of just trying to strangle the bad guy with both hands, if the hero guy just had a good blade in his pocket, ...". It drives my son a little batty, but at least he's eventually learning that carrying a blade has it's definite advantages!

Anyone else ever do that too? Or am I crazier than I originally fathomed?

Ditto, girlfriend always tells me what's on AND doesn't mind when I rewind and slowmo the sharp bits

One of my fave movie scenes with knives is in The professional ( I think it's called Leon over there...) Where leon slides his hand around the guys neck with (if my memory serves) some kind of stiletto. Just very smoothly done.

Anyone seen the Steven Segal movie "The patriot"? There's a scene near the end where he has a small damascus hunter, which looked pretty nice earlier, and he appears to be holding the blade!!! I wasn't sure at the time, and nobody would let me rewind it, so can someone confirm? That may kill off any faith i had in mr segal.....

James, did you catch the news a coupla nights ago where that aerolight pilot flew into powerlines and got stuck? Great shot of a Spyderco Rescue to the , errr, rescue!

I'd heard about it, but i don't watch much tv, so i hadn't seen that there was a rescue in it.

At least they were using the right tool for the job

I look for knives in the movies all the time even thouogh I don't know what make and model they are all the time. i too have made the comment that if that person had a knife they could do such and such. And even get frustrated when the person should have had a knife and didn't. But after reading this thread I feel better. Heres to keeping your eyes open.

I just found myself doing this recently. I was watching MI2 in the theatre. At the end when they are fighting it out mano-a-mano at that beach, the bad guy pulls out what appeared to be a Kershaw dagger. I am not a Kershaw afficianado so I don't know what model. But I remember paying as much attention to the knife as the actual fight. Where can I get one?

I love the feeling you get when a knife comes on the screen. Normally it's already at a tense moment so your heart is pumping and then...THEN...you see a KNIFE!!! Your pulse doubles and in an instant you've recognised it and told everybody around you what it is and you run to your room to get it and open it up the same way the bag guy did and and and... then you settle back down and hope to see more knives.

Anyhoo, does anyone remember "Strange Days"? There are two Spydies in that one. First a woman who is supposed to be some kind of master bodyguard pulls out a Rescue and wants to fight with it. A Rescue! Well later on there is a guy with more brains who whips out an Endura and stabs someone in the back. The movie wasn't a huge blockbuster but it was by James Cameron so you know it had to be OK.

After putting up with 32 years of comments on guns and knives in movies, my wife quit asking, "What kind of gun/knife?" She now asks why the commando knife in the flick is not as sharp as her kitchen knives!--OKG

OKG, You have done some good conditioning

I don't actively spot knives but my central nervous system just is build so that I spot knives in movies. If I'm watching VCR films I might (95% of time) rewind and try to find a good still pic of knife. My gf doesn't mind that.
