Movin' Up To Benchamde

I'm with Dark Nemesis on this. I think the speed of new models hitting the stores is speeding up. And so many seem cool. I thought that by buying the Sebenza I'd either sell it, or sell some of my others, and go on to customs. IT ISN'T WORKING!

I ordered my first custom yesterday. Unfortunately, am afraid I have a multiple year wait, but failed to ask that or the price. Am just going by what I read.

But, I still want the Griptilian or 710; the Timberline Discovery Lock; the Meyerco latest asstd opener (drew another memory blank); have yet to try the Magna; haven't tried the LCC or any Microtech yet; I want a Chive, and so on.

How does one stop this dread longing for so many knives? Or at least slow it down? I skipped the invidual sales forum for a couple weeks. Second time I checked back on just a few adds, bought one. Checked out a few the first time. No longer will I sneer at the word addiction! I'm Jonesing all over the place.

You got it bad! I recommend finding a good local maker and sitting down for a talk about what you really want. You will end up with a knife you will be proud of, probably at a better price, with less wait.

While a knife by one of the great makers that abound here (DDR, TA or TM for example) would be fantastic, a knife that you helped design might take the edge off your addiction.

Good luck!

Go with the 710, there's no competition.

If you want to stop it, I think you are probably outta luck like the rest of us, but I don't really consider that a bad thing.

To slow it down... Just use the trick I did. I went to blade show, found the maker that I have liked longer than any other, spend the down payment on the Jeep I wanted on a pair of his knives, and order two more
smile.gif
That pretty much slowed me down on buying new stuff, mainly because I have 4 knives inbound now as soon as they are finished(upto 1 year from now), and I have to regroup some cash to cover them as they come in.

I was stupid enough to tell myself that I owned enough knives/Spyderco's and that the Sebi would be my last knife
confused.gif
!

It was not and never will. If I owned the mithril/adamantium vorpal +100 knife of wounding and sharpness, I would still want another Spyderco or other good brand. The simple fact is, it is a hobby limited by money only. If I had $10,000 spare I would spend a lot of it on knives.

Strange thing is as much as I love my Sebi, I have no real strong desire for another
confused.gif
. It is probably the price that puts me off. If I get my fiscal situation sorted, I will buy a large and small woody!

Wayne....your going to love this one!!!!

True story: About two weeks ago I ordered my first knives ever from the internet. As you can imagine, as pickey as I am; I was having major anexiety about buying sight unseen.

They were 6 different models made by your 'favorite' company.
Guess what, all were perfect enough for even my excessively pickey standards.

Am I lucky or what????

Knew you would love to hear this. One was a 750, I love it. It has spurred me on to get a small Benza as soon as I can.

Have a good one and let me hear from you.

Teacher,
I saw your posts in the BM forums and I was going to respond but forgot my password
mad.gif
. Anyway, you have to get a Sebenza!!!! I just got mine and I cannot put it down. No other knife I have can even come remotely close!
Good luck,
Matt

Jazzman,

It has been decided.... or at least the size; I want a small. Trying to decide on regular or classic now.

Also trying to save a little cash while deciding.

Which one did you get????

Have a good one,

I also have my first Seb on the way. It should arrive tomorrow.

I really like the Benchmade 730. It's very smooth and wonderfully functional. Unfortunately, something about the BMs are leaving me cold. I don't quite know how to put my finger on it. I guess I don't find the artistry in them that I do in knives like the Camillus EDC, CRKT KFF and Point Guard, and even the Buck 110. I can't find a fault in the BMs as far as function goes. I guess I'm just not a BM man when it comes to form.

We'll see if the Seb gives me both the form and function that I'm after. I went with a large Classic 2000 Sebenza, seeing as I'm perfectly happy with my Camillus EDC for a smaller knife.

teacher! Cool! 6 blades eh? Lucky old you

You got very lucky with the 750... One of my favorite blades, now RIP

Hear that?
It's a small Sebenza, and you might as well get one before it drives you nuts (anybody that's all eyes for a small Seb, and barely gives an Apogee a second glance is a little nuts, anyway, IMO

)

Wayne <> Lucky old me? yeah...but the checkbook is screaming for relief......

And remember Wayne--- almost all of them are good--- my lastest goes far in proving that.

OWEN <> <> Your right ....I hear it.. there is no denying it!!!!!!

And your right, I thought about it later that day and that is exactly what I did. ???????? It must have been all the 'drool' spraying around...

teacher,
I got a small, serrated regular and as I mentioned, I couldn't be happier. It has been in my pocket from the moment I got it. In fact, it is the only knife that I have ever taken to the gym. If you think that your pocket book hurts, just think about how long you will have to wait till it gets to you. That's the real pain! Just know that you will NOT be dissapointed.
Take it easy,
Matt

My first high quality knife was a Benchmade. I have owned several and they were well built, sharp (at least mine were
smile.gif
), and had clever features like the axis lock.

Benchmade was a "gateway" brand for me, for soon I was buying Chris Reeve knives and customs and I now have given away or sold all my lesser blades.

Why?? Not because Benchmade weren't great knives, but I developed a bad habit of liking Talonite, Stellite, and CPM blades!!!

Oh yes. The Sebenza's are chirpping rather loudly tonight. I hear them everywhere it seems. Someone, I think Bandaidman, mentioned that BM's were "gateway" knives for him. I will go along with that assessment. Having had several BM's over the years, I think it did lead to a yearning for something better. What I found were customs, and lots of them from the top tactical makers. Now whats funny is that I have gone from customs to Sebenza's! I know, semi-custom at best. Just something about the ABSOLUTE precision of these things that just "flips my burger"

At any rate, BM's are a sure starting point and very nice themselves, especially some of the Axis locks being produced. At least you know you will a Sebenza to look forward too if you allow nature to take its course.

Thanks Jazz, I think mine will be small, regular, plain blade. Not quiet sure on the regular though , might be a classic. Must do a little more research.
Have a good one,
