moving a bridgeport

I've moved a smaller M-head Bridgeport I owned to three different locations. I had it in the basement of my mother's home and had to pull the head and table off for transport. We got it in and out of a Bilco doorway dangling off a tow truck.

I only had a 32" table. I've never encountered so much weight packed in a deceptively small size.

I used to work a block away from the factory in Bridgeport, CT. That's where I learned some machining.

Good luck. I know you will get it done.

(That was a great link on the BPT rebuild)

Nathan's probably right on the dialing back in, just so long as you're really careful in disassembly.

On the Meehanite, I think it's supposed to be somewhat lighter than standard, but my Jet isn't even close to being "light" I think mine weighs like 2200/2400 lbs. I think the main advantage to their casting is the fact that it doesn't rust, but I'm not that familiar with all the pros/cons to it..... I do know that it chips rather easily....iron doesn't....

Am I right in assuming (bad idea, I know) that the bulk of weight is in the head (no bad puns intended......:) )

I just know, for example, on my Jet, the table is easy to take off, the knee lift isn't "too bad", but the head.......yikes..... that looked like a beast to remove in the manual.

If you're getting a stellar deal though, it's worth the trouble.....
