Moving a hardness tester

Okay, here it is! Automatic, measures HRA, HRB, HRC, brinell, etc. Got a 120 degree diamond indenter with it, a flat table, and one for round stock. We tried it at the site, but the machine wasn't used in the last 10 years, wasn't level, etc. but it measured consistently around 10hrc more. I will clean it throughly, oil the moving parts, level the machine and make a few test measurements we will see if it survived the journey :)

WOW - that thing sure does look heavy. Bet it does go close to that 200 to 300 lb you mentioned. You did good.

Looks like a very nice unit.

Remember, regardless of whether it's reading high, low, whatever, as long as it's consistent, it can be calibrated, and adjusted to show the correct numbers. Just try to find a manual. Usually there's a hydraulic reservoir in the back, and it's often not obvious how to check the fluid or add it. In mine, it looked like a sealed cylinder with a felt washer on top to oil the rod, however, you can fill the cylinder below the felt pad.

Also, let it equalize up to room temp before man-handling it. If it's cold there like it is here right now, don't attempt to use it until the machine now longer feels like an ice-cube, and don't be surprised if things don't want to turn or pivot when it's cold.

Yes, it was a 2 man job for sure We didn't measure it of course but it was over 200 lb taking into account how hard we struggled with it when taking it off of the table.

I will look for the oil reservoir, I will have to check everything on it anyways. It was almost freezing in the room where we did the tests maybe that didn't help either :)

That's a really cool unit. I haven't seen that model before.
The oil will thicken up if it's too cold. I believe my manual stated that it should be above 50 Fahrenheit if I recall correctly. I keep mine in the house, too cold (and dirty) in the shop.
