i've always leaned toward a larger edc but lately i've leaned toward a smaller edc like the case sodbuster/ or hawkbill. in a tactical i've been carrying either a leek or a native. for most days the small stuff seems to get the job done. later, ahgar
My primary use folders are a Delica 4 and BM Mini-Grip. I do carry more than that usually, but they are more for convenience - i.e. small SAK, SE Delica 4. I carry my larger folders in my Maxpedition. Don't use them often, but every once in a while....
My Al Mar mini-SERE with 3 inch blade suits all my edc needs perfectly. I have several larger blade folders, but they stay home because this one rides in the corner of my pocket 24/7 and I hardly know its there, except when I need it. I have purchased quite a few knives over the last year, and yet this is the one that is my constant companion.
I've gone thru downsizing not only of the folder (Leek, Delica or smaller), but of the flashlight (Fenix P1, Photon Proton, Arc AAA, etc.), wallet (thin card case from ebags.com), keys (removing unnecessary), cell phone (small Motorola) and gun (baby Glock).
This is not to say that I don't enjoys some large days (just carryed a Strider AR for a week), but I've found that I almost never am lacking what I need, even when carrying "little".
I am using as EDC knives with less than 3 " blade-length, e.g. BM 850, Spydie C25, Iron Eagle Fire Lock I, Kershaw Mini Task and I have no problems, even for whittling in the woods.
The name of the game with me is small folders - they are the handiest and most socially acceptable knifes there are. However I rotate every week between my knifes (mainly for cleaning purposes) and every now and then I carry my 41MC 9" balisong or my UTx70 switchblade - If nothing else it's a great converation starter!
I carry the smaller knives, 2" - 3" at work in a federal office building in downtown Washington, DC. When not going there, I tend to carry larger blades, simply because I prefer the larger ones at a mental level. I do not try to justify them, I just enjoy them.
