Aloha ALL!
Welp, I finally got my MPT fixed blade the other day from Boker USA. They did a great job on the grind lines, and the 1/8" thick AUS8 blade was "sharper than normal", especially on the secondary edge, aka tip. Serrations are niiice and w-i-d-e...Sheath is polymer with various holes for lashing or for the INCLUDED Mini Tek-Lok. One thing I am confused about is the grip. Not sure why Boker opted for the "ribbed pattern", it was supposed to be like gun checkering. All in all, it is okay, but just unexpected on the production model. Oh yeah, another interesting thing to see was that these are serial numbered!
I carry my MPT in a canted right angle. This way, I can also wear it on the left side, for a crossdraw option without fiddling with the Tek-Lok. I attached a pic of a knife I designed for a good knifebrother of mine, called the PMK and made by chaxknives. The blade length on the PMK is about the same as the MPT's. The PMK's sheath is also rigged in a canted right angle. However, the difference between the two when worn on the belt is the amount of handle that will not stick out or protrude if worn under clothing...or even outside of clothing for that matter.
This concept is the same as the Subcom Fixed Blade, but the MPT has the longest blade IMHO on a short handle without "ruining" the concept of "movement/concealment". No more getting poked by my CRKT Hissatsu in the yard, that's for sure! I am wearing my MPT as I type this, and it's very comfortable. The diff between the SFB and MPT (aside from the obvious differences) is that the MPT has no ring finger groove. While I passed around prototypes of the SFB, one had ring finger groove, the other did not. After performing the "Hand Test" among my peers, it was a split decision. Also, because the real steel version built by chaxknives had no ring finger groove, Boker stuck to the design.
For those with bigger hands, or who simply want to "find" their MPT's in a hurry can simply add a fob to it. While toting around the version made for me by chaxknives, I would hold the fob between my ring and pinky fingers. The Black MPT will be my companion piece for my Black bladed CE Trance. They just look really good together! Besides, I am curious how the coat on the MPT will handle with use.
Well, that's it for now, and will keep you all posted on how the Black CE MPT holds up...I got yard work to do tomorrow! Will check you guys out soon.
Mahalo much, and God bless!
