Mr. Becker, You Just Convinced Me To Get My First Becker. Which Do You All Recommend?

If you want something to chop and split wood, go with the BK-9. If you want something you will like carrying in the woods, go with the BK-15 or BK-16 depending on the blade shape you prefer. I honestly prefer the BK-15 over the BK-16 because I like a pointier blade for all around using. You won't have any trouble splitting wood (batoning) with the BK-15 or BK-16. They are just smaller and as a result, you are more apt to have them with you in the woods. Nothing wrong with the BK-7, I just think if you are going to carry that large a blade, you might as well get the BK-9.

The 9 and the 16 are doing it for me as of right now. REALLY doing it! I have a 10 on the way too. What I like about them is that they are NOT too nice. There is an "Industrial" quality to them.....A bit rough, and VERY solid. I spent 3 hours yesterday splitting firewood with the 9....Just to do it. Everything that blade will span, it will split. And the edge stayed sharp! The 16 is a PERFECT all around blade for camping, utility, and just plain knife work. Food prep, starting a fire, you name it. I don't know if Mr. Becker designed these blades to be "Industrial" in feel, but they have a great quality to them. You can modify the shit out of them, and not feel bad about it. The steel is as good as I have ever seen in 1095. Work horses.

+ 1 to every single word you posted. My sentiments exactly!

Sorry for hijack the thread - Mr. Becker, could you please confirm my friend request on your Facebook? I send it couple days ago (HK logo as a profile picture).
I want to send you some links with pics from IWA 2015 as I wrote in my BK15 thread. PM obviously doesn't work here (I don't know why).
Thank you.

my first was the bk2 the 10 is lighter but once you get youre hand around the awsomeness that is the bk2 you just feel bring it on this knife can take it all baby!

I started with a 17, very very impressed. Sturdy, somewhat stylish yet more finesse than brute. I doubt u could go wrong or be disappointed with any of the options.

Hey ALlHSS....

Thanks for the kind words, Sir....... My triumvirate is an Eleven, a Sixteen and a Nine......and a SAK Rucksack..... If I am in the woods or in camp there is an Eleven around my neck and a Sixteen tucked just behind the Glock...... To prove a point to myself I made a quite comely bow drill and fire board with a BK-6 Patrol Machete but, having the more or less right tool does not hurt...... The Nine can do it all, the Sixteen is just handy as hell and it is easy to always have the Eleven as back up.... The Nine or a similar tool such as a small hatchet, Machax or Kukri is very nice to have in or on the pack..... I use the snot out of my Sixteen and Eleven and have used the Nine from desert to swamp, highlands and lowlands and from Northern Ontario to South Carolina with good effect........I tried for years to build the one knife that can do it all and I am still trying but, I have no expectation that I can squeeze that Stihl 17 into a less than one pound sheath knife that will also be the delight of eye surgeons........With judicious use of a baton you can make a small or medium size blade work way out of it's weight range but remember the judicious part.....

I do not know if this has been at all helpful but, I hope to have shone a little light on your problem.....

Thank you for your interest in my blades.....

Ethan

Hey Salty......

I worry when you worry about disrespecting me!!!!!!.... I absolutely love the Five and think that someone in every group should have a Fifteen somewhere........ The Eleven, Nine and Sixteen are the blades I use most frequently but, as you know, I have a few blades not of my own design and enjoy using them as well........ Never worry counselor about being a bit Crassus around me...... Please give my best to the Scout...... A fine son you have, Sir.......

Ethan

Oh Em Gee I love this man! If forums were countries then undoubtedly we live in the best country ever! Our own beloved hero/president happens by to give us precious advice/instruction on his wonderful product to his loyal and humble subjects. Drops my jaw every time. The humility displayed by Mr. B never fails to astound. What a magnificent man!

As for your blade choice my friend, if you can get to a bricks-and-mortar store that has them in stock, try them for yourself. I seriously doubt you can go wrong with any of them. They are all brilliant. But if in serious doubt, refer to the comments above that the Boss gave. If he swears by the 9-16-11 combo, then you can't go wrong. Hmmmm 9-16-11. Sounds sexy doesn't it?

Mr. Becker,

It has been extremely helpful! I am familiar with the idea of a triumvirate for the woods but for me it was a sven saw, wetterlings forest ax, and BHK Woodsman (or other medium fixed blade). However, your set up sounds as solid as it gets. I really wish I had a good knife store close by, as I have strangely wide hands with short fingers as well as some past hand injuries that make finding a knife that agrees with my hand and wrist during strenuous things like chopping a difficult task.

I just want to say thank you again for your feedback, as well as that from everyone in this thread. I ended up purchasing a BK4 Machax because the price was a steal and there were only 3 left in stock. It came today, and I just cannot wait to get out and use it. The handle feels great, juuust long enough and a great width. The edge came shaving sharp. I'm really impressed with this thing and can't wait to put it to good use. I was going to order a BK15, again because of the amazing price, but they sold out before I snagged it. Really though, I'm surprised by how much I want a 15.... and 14... and 9... and 3.

I am in the city for school/work till Thursday, but I will definitely go out and use the 4 and post some pictures and thoughts after.

Thanks again for everyone's help! I have a feeling this isn't my last Becker.
