Mr. Emerson, would you consider making...

Hey Ark -

I know that there is at least one more out there. It is a SpecWar logo knife, with a smaller length, approx. 3 1/2" or so. The great knife impressario and self-styled confidant of Ernie, Jack Alvarez, had it for sale before he went on vacation... He had Ernie refinish the blade coating, but my memory fails to confirm whether it had black ti or ti oxide. Same oblong hole opener and all the other trappings, just a bit smaller.

Old Jack really used to have great access to Ernie's knives before his 'retirement'. He also had a knife that served as the prototype of the Raven - same spearpoint blade only on a hand ground, carved black micarta handle instead of the kydron version. I wish I knew where that one was today!

Ark -

There's a custom version of this out there? Niiice. So, wait - if the CUSTOM blade is 4" (drool), what's MINE gonna be? 3.5?

Just called EKI to change the order a bit (think I might have talked to Mary - if she helps get the phones...) anyway, I was looking at the pic further up the thread, and decided I liked the look of this particular knife with the black-T on the blade. So, I switched it to that, rather than the hard chrome. If I squint, it looks like the liners on the one in the pic are blue, so mine should look exactly like that now - MEAN.

I hope I'm not out of line, but here's a scan of the picture in Tomo's book "Tactical Knives" that shows one of the Protos.

I highly recommend the book!!

John,
Out of line? Not at all.

Yep, that's the SPECWAR logo proto.

When I figure out how to take a good digital photograph I will post some pics.

Whoa. Now, THAT'S different. I'm not used to seeing Ernie's knives with a thumb hole. It doesn't look... "right" for some reason. Sweet knife, though.

Is it me, or do both the "I&I", and the proto look like they have a slight belly? Ark - is this the case with yours, or are the edges straight, and the photo's tricking me?

See2,
Yes, very slight belly unlike the BM 975.

Cool! I LIKE the way that looks!

I have always wondered why the CQC6 hasn't been made as a production knife. It is Emerson's signiture knife, more so than the CQC7 I think. I would love to see a production CQC6 with the new 2000 grind lines.

Peter Irvin,

Bereft of the facts, I am simply speculating on this topic, but here's my take on the issue:

The CQC-6 seems to have been reserved for custom only status due to its significance as the cornerstone of the Emerson tactical knife lineage. Sure there are other Emerson tactical knives that preceded the CQC-6 but we all know that it is this knife that in many ways revolutionized the Emerson line and changed the way people think about folding knives in general.
So then the CQC-6 has earned a certain cache which Ernie does not wish to alter.

I asked him about that. To quote Ernie:

<font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2">"No way will the CQC6 ever be a production model. The CQC6 is the 'Flagship' of my custom line"</font>
