Mr. Hubbard......the 916 why.....

This is what I got from our Special Projects Manager

"The knife was designed as replica of the original Bowie. I teamed it up the model 94 Winchester 30/30 for a 100 year anniversary. It just so happened that the Geronimo dagger we were doing had the same handle design as the Bowie. All I needed to do was change the front configuration of the blade. The guard also matched the Bowie I was replicating. Hope that helps."

^yes Sir. thank you.

maybe we can see a 916 like knife with a larger more useable handle down the road??

I have been there with other consumer products - they scale something down and it either looks disproportionate or becomes impractical in some way. It looks like the manager said, "Make me a Bowie knife with a shorter blade" and the employee put the original on a copying machine and shrunk the whole knife. It really does look good (at least to me) in any picture that does not include a human hand.

This is the real answer.

The whole knife is true to life but scaled down.

With a 12 to 15 inch blade the handle would be larger to match the scale and work fine.

Also......the pictures here that have included human hands have been pretty large human hands......and that made the handle look even smaller.

As is, the knife handle is on the small side, but still usable by most people.

Tiguy, your RH36 looks like it's been reground as mine does not have that V grind. I have always loved a Quartermaster. Thanks for posting your photo. DM

View attachment 751470 View attachment 751471 I am not sure how to answer your question. The newer looking PAL is 0.050" taller than the old one. The sheath that came with the newer looking PAL is really clean. It did not look like the shiny PAL needed any extra work. I wonder if it is a different model year. There is a difference in the fuller length and the shape of the clip bevel.

Thanks for the close up photo. Yes, the edge grinds have been changed. In the upper photo the lower knife with the red spacers and pin
thru the bell pommel is the older knife. Mine is from 1945 and has the same sheath and handle with red spacers. But the 1/4" near the edge is
convex. Ground in the manner like the early fixed blade Bucks. Where the semi-hollow grind is in the center of the blade. Yes, I believe the 2 are made decades apart. DM
