MR knife box o knives GAW!

Is the box on the way?

I just got back from an out of town meeting late last night, it will be Friday afternoon or Saturday morning before it goes back out.:)

Thanks. I look forward to checking out all the different patterns and practice my sharpening on one.

I can say I am eyeing the spyderco. Not for me but for my dad. I sold my last spyderco USN versions plain edge and serrated, and sold them for what I paid directly off spyderco site. I didn't realize how collectible sprint runs were. That was about 3 years ago. I just bought them because they looked limited edition zombie green. Didn't realize how collectible of a sprint run I had lol. Now I don't own any spydercos.

My dad had to liquidate his knife collection a few years back passing down one knife to me and selling most on ebay. His most missed and carried knife was a delica. He carried one on his keys for almost 20 years. So I know he will appreciate it a lot. In time since I've gifted him a cold steel voyager. I know he's going to be jealous when he sees it. I plan to do some garage sales and flea markets this weekend to see what I can add.

For me I want to get immersed into traditional patterns. I always like to expand my cutlery knowledge.

So far these are my favorite 4. I want to give the spyderco to my dad, he's already seen it. And pick out one of these out of the four traditional for me.

Not sure which to pick. Might do a Eeny, meeny, miny, moe. The marbles and the schrade minute man I think are my two favorite. Followed by the rough rider and scrimshaw kit. I watched a video of cutlery lover doing one a long time ago. This is more crafty so it's not up on the top of the list, If I make a bad design I won't be happy. I think I will decide and think it over between the marbles or the minute man.

So far I put all the nicer knives into eyeglass pouches to keep them from getting scratched and dinged and cleaned some up. Also added a sheath the Makael a member here made a extra for me. It's very nice quality but I have no use for it. I mainly just need the one sized for my balisong.

All three of those folders were very tempting to me, as well as a few others. I didn’t want a net gain in the number of knives, because there is really no more room on my shelf. I do think it is time to start thinning the contents of the box. If you are just starting your collection, then please, do not be shy about taking more knives. Somebody’s gotta do it.

Edit: i see Ernie made the same point while I was typing.
P.S. In addition to some very attractive RRs and other folders, there is a NIB Okapi Biltong and a NIB Opinel 7, which ideally would go to someone who has not tasted one of those delightful knives before.

I'm not a big fan of the Okapi. I was curious when I saw it. Interesting for a knife from Africa.

I was interested in the opinel. Even almost purchased one in the past. This was my first time handing one and it about gave me a heart attack.

I went to test the knife and open it and something sprung into the wall without a lot of force and scared the crap out of me. I thought I was cut for a second. I'm not sure if I broke it or what. It still opens and closes. I still have to search for the part in my room. After this I don't want this knife lol.

The marbles knife is one of my favorites. All the blades on it cut as sharp as the razor on the rough rider white trapper.

It sounds like you tried to open the Opinel with the locking collar locked closed, is the metal collar still on it? That's the only thing that I could possibly think it could be. Was it unusually hard to open, LOL?

Ok I found the part and put it back on. It was the round shaft piece under the tang popped off.

Yes that's what it was. I didn't know there was a lock. Some of the knives like the bokers were really hard to open and ripping up my nail, so I just went to open it real fast not realizing there was a lock. I must say this is one sharp knife too. Slices through paper like butter. May be the sharpest one I tried.

That does not look like the knife I put in the box. That one shows some patina, quite a bit of wear to the printed logo on the handle, and some work on the blade. The one I put in was unmolested NIB. IT also had the new style locking collar, with the nub on the collar and the milled groove in the bolster. That collar was designed to prevent just what happened to you. You probably would not have been able to pop off the lock ring just by trying to open the blade. Something is fishy here.

Isn't that the one Ernie added? Look on the post from page one.
