I sent a Greco Whisper to Mike Satre last May to have a sheath made for it. I haven't heard from him since, despite several attempts to contact him through email and and answering machine.

And yes, he did cash my check.

At this point, I don't care that much about a sheath. There are other sheath makers out there. I just want my knife back.

Eight months for a sheath? C'mon!

If anyone knows a reliable way to contact Mr. Sastre, please send me an email.

Will P., just in case you didn't know this comes up every few months. seems like 1 or maybe 1.5 years is not uncommon wait, if memeory serves.

Too bad more people don't check GBU before sending things off/ having stuff made.

I see this over and over again. Every time this comes up there are a lot of posts stating that Mike Sastre can be slow, hard to get in touch with and has very poor communication, BUT he makes a great sheath and when it does come it will have been worth the wait. You know what? I totally disagree with that. If I went through an eight month wait with no communication after the check was cashed, I wouldn't want the sheath any more either. Like you stated, there are lots of top notch sheath makers out there. Why should anyone have to go through this kind of BS just to get a great sheath?

A 1-1 1/2 yr. wait to make a sheath. What is this guy splitting the atom. He cashed the check fast enough. I think the whole deal smells bad.

What kind of turnaround time did he provide you. . .when the two of you came to an agreement to have the work done ?

This was for a kydex or concealex sheath, correct ?

A quick seacrh seems to indicate that once someone makes a big enough PIA with him they get their stuff.

Well, he DOES attend a lot of shows. I would find him at the next big show, and demand my knife back. I would wager he will be in Vegas.

He told be it would be a couple of months. I didn't figure it would be that bad, since I was going to be away in CBT anyways. Yeah, I should have checked GBU, but when I asked around for kydex sheath makers several people reccommended Mr. Sastre without mentioning this BS.

Thanks Danbo. :D
Maybe I should ask the powers-that-be real, real nice if I can go to Vegas.

Looks like a buncha miscommunication by a buncha folks. What adds insult to injury. . . .hindsight. That stuff sucks as were standing with our pants around our ankles. . . .as we're lipping WTF. * shrugs shoulders *

As I see it. . . .you don't have many options that are available to you.

1. Keeping trying to contact Satre
2. Wait until your knife and sheath are delivered

Personally, I don't care how good someone is at heating and bending plastic. . . . kydex or concealex sheath. . . . . .more than one month. . . . .

...SINCE LAST MAY???...Unless Mike S. is dead or in a coma, there is NO excuse for a "bent plastic" sheath to be taking this long to make, and the no-communications thing, that's even worse...Damn...

that's too long of a wait....hope you get your knife back. you shouldn't take the cash, if the goods aren't ready...

Post your email and get some business!!!! :D I am sure a lot of people will answer the call. I have had a couple of sheaths from Mike and have never had this problem. I am sorry to hear it. :(

Well, considering the number of great sheathmakers here on BFC this seems a little weird. I know he makes nice sheaths, I own one, but I also own one from Eric (on/Scene") and I've seen lots of pics of other great ones. I've been making sheaths for many years and it takes even a slow bastard like me about 30 minutes from start to finish, so I would say this is inexcusable...

how far away is he? If he is within several hours travel, just go to his house, with your original receipt for the knife. If he chases you off, just go to your lawyer. If he shoots you, well then, you shouldn't take everyones advice :D

lol, i dont think that would happen.....?

All right!! I feel I need to defend Mike on this one. Mike is very nice man who runs a one man shop and yes is very busy. His name gets mentioned in this forum for long waits and I'm no exception. I waited over 1 yr for my sheaths. Yes that was long but the quality was exceptional. I personally went to visit him at his house to pick up my sheaths and his hospitality was second to none. Hell, we talked about knives for hours non-stop. Give the guy a break. He does read the emails but damn, if you get 100 emails a day, tell me what you would do after say # 50. He does attend knife shows and yes he does take trips to the "Legacy of Steel" and fun events like that. My advice to you is call and ask first to see how long of a wait you would concur. He doesn't turn away business. I do feel for you for those who are waiting and yes my patients was tested but in the end it's all good. He's not a thief by no means because he returned to me everything I sent him. His hours are strange so a late night phone call or early morning is probably your best bet. Thanks

IF WAR IS HELL, TAKE A BETTER PITCHFORK THAN THE DEVIL
