My girlfriend is a chef by trade, so knives are nothing new to her, and she can totally understand why some knives are $300-$400. This really helps me justify buying a $70 becker, when it's sitting next to her $200 chefs knife. When it's time to go play in the woods though, she loves taking my CS Kukri to everything that looks choppable. She's also a fan of the BK14, and thinks that a small, tough blade like that really has its place in the kitchen as well... quite a bit of food prep has been done with the Eskabar. Still need to get her a proper belt knife, so I can have my stuff back when we go hiking.
LadyMoose wanted one of the new Kabar Navy MK1's with Kraton. So, she got one. So far, its beat her Ontario Pilots Knife, hands down, according to her.
