Ms Hollowdweller and Ganga

How weird is it, that of all the things you mentioned, only the Blue Mountain appeals to me?

(Adopting Andy Griffith speech mannerisms-) Gooood Coffee! Good Coffee. :D

I have a friend who used to be a rasta and live in Jamaica. He said he moved back because coke had moved into the country and turned the whole scene more violent and crime ridden. Now he's a muslim. ;)

So True--then was then ---now is now. Then was in the early 1970's and I suspect it has changed drastically and tourist-wise, not necesarily for the better.

(Adopting Dean Martin's voice and mannerisms-)

Sweet, sweet memories you gave-a me
you can't beat the memories you gave-a me

Take one fresh and tender kiss
Add one stolen night of bliss
One girl, one boy
Some grief, some joy
Memories are made of this

Don't forget a small moonbeam
Fold in lightly with a dream
Your lips and mine
Two sips of wine
Memories are made of this

Then add the wedding bells
One house where lovers dwell
Three little kids for flavor
Stir carefully through the days
See how the flavor stays
These are the dreams you will savor

With His blessings from above
Serve it generously with love
One man, one wife
One love through life
Memories are made of this
Memories are made of this

Once upon a time there was this Island.

On the island there were different places where the inhabitants grew beautiful herb, plants towering over 20 feet high.

Places like The Strawberry Hills,The Cockpit Country, Ocho Rios,The Black River Swamp, Negril, and Montego Bay.

There was a meeting place called "The Zion Coptic Church" where all could go to commune.

In the mornings, the Blue Mountain Coffee was especially delicious and in the evenings the Akee & Salt Fish with breadfruit, accompanied by a Red Stripe and Reggae, made it alright.

I bet you'd like it there. ;)

Sounds like Heaven to me! :)

..gives a new meaning to the term "herb lore."

...the doctors don't know everything...and the 'drug industry' is just a buncha pushers sanctioned by da man...first ones free...

There is a multi-thousand year old drug culture folks, and yer livin' in it wherever you go. Study the histories.

Example: Alexander the Great used and issued to his troops opium cakes, for pain, injury, lack of food, and morale. also introduced Opium to many countries in Asia. In those days it was eaten, not smoked.

The Scythians, contemporaries with the other great 'barbarian' tribes of the day (Persians, Celts) were huge fans of Marijuana. They would build saunas (much like an NDN Sweat lodge) and they would throw it on the fire, get a big hir, then hoot and holler and go jump out into the snow.
[Tacitus tells us this in his work _Germania_]

In China, it was used in Buddhist (and other) temples as incense--talk about meditative states! The Buddha himself ate one cannabis seed daily.

And let us not forget hashish:

as·sas·sin (ə-săs'ĭn)
n.
One who murders by surprise attack, especially one who carries out a plot to kill a prominent person.
Assassin A member of a secret order of Muslims who terrorized and killed Christian Crusaders and others.
[French, from Medieval Latin assassīnus, from Arabic ḥaššāšīn, pl. of ḥaššāš, hashish user, from ḥašīš, hashish. See hashish.]

WORD HISTORY At first glance, one would be hard-pressed to find a link between pleasure and the acts of assassins. Such was not the case, however, with those who gave us the word assassin. They were members of a secret Islamic order originating in the 11th century who believed it was a religious duty to harass and murder their enemies. The most important members of the order were those who actually did the killing. Having been promised paradise in return for dying in action, the killers, it is said, were made to yearn for paradise by being given a life of pleasure that included the use of hashish. From this came the name for the secret order as a whole, ḥaššāšīn, “hashish users.” After passing through French or Italian, the word came into English and is recorded in 1603 with reference to the Muslim Assassins.

Man....it's always somethin'

thot that might be widely known by now.

I guess this points also to a long history of combat drugs.

for the last 1400 years, Muslims have been the primary suppliers of Opiates and Hashish to the world.

My 1st Marine Exp. contact tells me that Opium and Hashish (as well as pills, cocaine, and other drugs) were readily obtainable on the streets of Baghdad and other cities in Iraq. Folks came up to them all the time pushing this and that (those folks will make the best capitalists!) Said it made the 1month boat ride back more tolerable...

Me, I'm a fan of the "blonde" hashish varieties, (legally obtained and made in the Netherlands) more potent, no so tarry and camel-dung smelling. If ya go to Germany, you owe it to yerself to take the train ride to Amsterdam..good art, good beer, good time!

Keith

PS yes, thassrite..some places don't hypocritically hide their habits in the black mkt.

Yep Ferrous, & the British goverment controled most of that "muslim production" {not to mention, shamanic, buddhist & hindu} from around 1700 untill 1947. Then the varios western inteligence/ crime syndicates/ military agencies took over.

I remember the Lebanese red of the 80's, and of course Nepalese temple balls.

Once upon a time Tulsa was well known for its quality of Mary Jane. The Tulsa Tops was s'possed to have been some arse kickin shlt!!!! It was good enough to be mentioned in High Times. :D

yeah, the "East india trading co" or some such. They moved production to China and 1 in 3 Chinese bacame addicted to Opium or other opiates. Thre Chinese were so disgusted with the rest of the west that they closed up shop (closing ports and other routes of trade in and out of China).

HD, you tease!

Yvsa - Yeah, Cali is always heralded for having the best of the best, but the Midwest was/is a big producer of DGS (DaGoodS**t)

Most Europeans I've met felt that smoking the plant was "quaint"--they're used to the Hashish.

[NOTE: None of this should be taken as an endorsement, most folk have enuf trouble with the real world and should not experiment with mind alterants, including alcohol and religion]
