I am going to buy a new knife at the next knife show. The only trouble is that I can't decide between these two knives. I can only buy one of them that day. Which one would all of you buy first and why? Thanks for your help.

I have both, and if I could only have one, it would be the LCC. Just a really well made, solid knife. Near custom quality.

The SERE is a fine knife, but the LCC imho is in another class.

Hi John,

Buy yourself the LCC plain edge in Stonewash and you have Chris Reeve Sebenza quality or even better as the blade grinds on the LCC are perfect probably because they were done on by a machine.

I have both, and I'm selling my LCC. To be fair though, the main reason I'm selling the LCC is beacause of the poorly designed clip.
I would say ( obviously ) get the SERE 2000.
The SERE is custom quality, in my opinion, and about the only drawback with it is the thumbstuds, which catch on my pocket every once in awhile.

LCC. No question.

if you wanted a utility knife, get the SERE.
it's meant to be used (not the the LCC isn't).
if you want a better looking knife that looks and feels like a custom, get the LCC.
either one would serve you well during use.
i have an LCC. i don't suggest getting serrations if you get the LCC, they suck, aren't very effective serrations.
ohh and if u're the kinda guy who cares how his knife looks, i'd warn you that the titanium bolsters on the LCC show scratches and scuffs very easily.

I have both.
The LCC is as close to a custom folder as one can find from the factories. It has toughness and great looks in spades. The blade is a wonderfully thin edged cutting machine.
I would choose it if I had to choose, but it would be a very hard choice as the SERE 2000 is also a tough customer that begs to be used.
Get the LCC first and scrimp, save, beg borrow or second mortgage if you need to in order to get the SERE 2000.
No knife nut should be without these two winners.

What don't you like about it? It must be a big deal to make you sell it...

The SERE is much more comfortable to grip, IMHO. It's more rounded and feels much more secure. Also, the LCC is pretty heavy (not that the SERE isn't). If I had to pick it would be the SERE no question.

oh yeah the LCC clip is kind of puny...

zerozappa,

The main reason I'm selling is the clip. It's way too small and not nearly "grippy" enough for the size/weight of the knife.
If you don't carry it in the sheath, you stand a good chance of losing it, in my opinion. Especially if you carry it in your back pocket, like I do.

The quality on the SERE is first rate, the clip is excellent, and the only way the knife could ride lower in the pocket is if you didn't use a clip at all.
My only gripe with Al Mar is contact info is scarce.

Thanks for all of your help. I guess I will be going with the LCC. It sounds like more people like thier LCC's more than thier SERE 2000's. I want to get them both but I only have enough money right now for one. Thanks again.

If I were in the market for either or both, the LCC is the one to buy first NOW. Mike mentioned Microtech is switching to aluminum bolsters and it sounds like they might be facing some financial straights (Chapter 11?)that could make the future of their production iffy.

SERE will surely be around for your next purchase, but the style of Microtech you want may not be.

I have owned both. Sold the SERE, kept the LCC. The LCC is just about the finest production knife I have ever seen. I'm trying to convince my spousal unit that I need a couple more (in micarta this time) before they change the bolsters. she remains unsympathetic to my cause.

You won't regret the Micarta. I've got two of them in micarta, and it's awesome. I've heard it described as a "denim-like" feel, and tha't pretty close. Very well fitted with a great finish.

I know CF is all the rage, I just preferred the micarta.

The timing of this thread was perfect. I was just shopping for a new folder. My choices narrowed down to the SERE 2000 and the LCC.

Both knives are very smooth. The LCC a tad heavier (in weight). The SERE seems more like a tough knife. The LCC seemed a little too "fancy" in appearance, to me (just a personal taste only).

Many of the dealers I called, who carried both, recommended the SERE. I went with the SERE.

I have both. I like my SERE 2000 very much but it in no way compares to my LCC. The LCC is my favorite knife, and I go nowhere without it.
