Drove up to the Razor Sharp store in Port Richie, Florida, to inquire whether Microtech had serviced and returned my Halo V knife that failed to retract less than a week after I first purchased it brand new. Razor Sharp sent it back to Microtech for warranty service on November 4, 2014. The store owner told me that the knife had coincidentally just come back to him two days ago. So it literally took Microtech four months to repair this $585 knife. I test fired it in the store once. It appeared to function fine. I paid the store owner $25 to cover his shipping costs. So now I’ve invested $610 into this knife. When I drove back home I fired the knife two more times with no problems. Then, with the blade retracted inside the handle, I made a gentle slashing motion with the knife. I could hear something moving around inside the knife. “That’s odd,” I thought to myself. “These knives aren’t supposed to make noise.” I fired the knife. The blade came out properly. I tried to retract the blade. The blade wouldn’t fully retract. The exact same defect that I’d sent the knife back to get fixed had happened again. I tried to call Microtech. It’s a Saturday, and they’re only open on weekdays.

Just venting some frustration.

I would be pretty pissed too. That is a high end knife . I have had two of them and I would consider them to be very well made. Since you did send it in it was not one of the counterfeits floating around. If you had not sent it in I would have suspected as much. I am sure you will come out whole at the end of this . With either a new knife or a resolution.

Next time you find out your retailer charges you his shipping to return YOUR new and defective $500 knife to the maker to whom HE paid maybe $200 for it in the first place, demand a refund and buy it elsewhere.

I try to buy from retailers with their own return policy who won't pass my problem off to the manufacturer. (I like to work direct buyer/seller deals--middle men are like an irritable bowel.) Otherwise I buy straight from the manufacturer after, of course, confirming THEY are a good and reputable maker with good warranties.

Not to be a buzzkill here but I assume you confirmed the retailer is not at all at fault for the delay or the problems? They couldn't have delayed sending it to M/T, didn't follow on w/ M/T as they should have on your behalf, or maybe sent you a Halo that had already been returned as bad by another customer....stuff like that? Just sayin', that can always be in the loop.

If indeed Microtech is the problem it's good you exposed it here. What you've described is inexcuseable. I'd broadcast it too.

And if your retailer did that to you w/ a new Halo he's a simp. :)

EDIT: Your story irked me. I just checked out this "Razor Sharp" joint's FAQ and the section headed "Returns and Exchanges" has not one peep about exchanges. :suspicion:

That's about as sharp as a marble....

As much as I feel bad for the OP .. The same old line of I heard Microtech warranty dept sucks just rings hollow. People scream to the heavens when something goes wrong and everyone piles on just to add to there post count. I have had good results with them and other have too. I would be very pissed if that happened to me to but I have found when you clearly and calmly discuss your issue with the any company or person you have a dispute with you always get better results flipping out always gets you the slow fix.and just stresses you out. .

Count me as another one who has had only Positive results with Microtech's CS.

Have returned two knives over the years, out of probably 100+. I returned the knives directly to MT, and not through a Dealer. Anyone can do so...
It's only when the repaired knife (speaking Automatics here) is returned to the customer that it must be done through a Dealer, if the customer doesn't qualify (LEO, Military, etc)

Anyway, one I had for 10+years as an EDC (UT6).

Both knives were repaired and returned in under 6 weeks, just like I was told on the phone prior to sending them in.

Sorry about yours...

Point taken on the required shipping by the dealer for autos under law. Didn't consider that. My bad.

Only had one experience with needing Microtech repair, and things turned out well. I tried adjusting the pivot on a Socom and mangled the pivot a bit as I was trying to center the blade. I filed out the form, wrote a letter explaining what I did any the result. I asked for them to replace the pivot screw and center the blade. I offered to cover the cost of the pivot, they said it was not necessary. Laurel was very polite, and answered my questions. when I would email her. She was great about everything. I got my knife back within the stated time frame and they did what I asked them to.

Of the new batch of Halo V's that came out, I only had one with a failure to lock open.
The recent run has been pretty good; and the more recent ones have been rockets.

When your dealer sent the knife into Microtech for repair, it is extremely important to leave a note of exactly what the problem is with the knife. A note saying "doesn't work" is not enough. If Microtech gets the knife and they test it and it works, they will send it right back. They are not going to investigate it any further, because it worked for them when they got it.

The last knife Microtech repaired for a customer was sent to them in November and came back in January. It was an Ultratech that was failing to lock closed after 3 years.

Also, I would like it very much if the Halo Vs cost dealers $200.
