MT SOCOM not closing tight?

My MT SOCOM M/A when closed still has a tiny tiny bit of slack. When you try to push it more closed, it will go in a tiny bit more and make a very very quiet, but audible sound as it hits the stopper. Is this normal to have your knife not fully engage the stopper when closed?

No, that's not normal, at least not on the seven or so MT's I own now. But I do have a Tanto M/A SOCOM that has a slight bit of 'wobble' when the blade is partially deployed. I think the ball-detent is a bit small. I put a dab of black moly grease in the pivot, and the problem lessened. It still locked tight in the fully open and fully closed position. MT has a rep for quality--ship it back for repair.--OKG

It's way too minor to spend 15+ total shipping with insurance to fix. Just was wondering. You can only hear the little noise if you put it next to your ear.

...btw, Chang, is this a M/A or a D/A? Now that you mention it, my M/A's close tight, but every once in a while when I manually open a D/A, and then close it, it feels like a 'cushion close.' Is this what you are experiencing?--OKG
P.S. Some members of our church are originally from Champaign, Ill. Are you SDA?

The sound may be the ball popping out of the hole in the blade on the backside before the blade fully contacts the stop pin in the closed position. In this case it is a problem with fit. I would want one the operates without this problem.

Yes, Chang, 'SDA' in our case is a knife club, but the members carry mostly 2 inch Case knives and fingernail clippers. It means 'Seventh Day Adventist.' In truth, we have several knife collectors who meet at my house after church on Saturday, to eat and sharpen their knives on my Edge-Pro. Believe it or not, it's called 'fellowshipping.' SDA's take in a lot of wayward old motorcyclists. But the funny thing is, we have a lot of transfers from the Champaign, Illinois area, and I thought you might be a part of this religious, but metal hungry band of Christians.--OKG

Chang, If it were my knife I would want it to be right. As far as the shipping cost you might be able to make a case for reimbursement.

I think I'll use the knife, and when it needs factory resharpening that the strop can't restore, I'll send it back with a note telling them to correct the stopper and then resharpen.

Chang,

Ya really should get rid of that MT piece of junk, and buy yourself a Cold Steel Voyager.

No, I handled several Cold Steels and I'd simply go insane if a CS was my carry knife.

The stopper problem on the MT doesnt really bother me. It's so freaking tiny and only is audible when you hold it to your ear and push the blade.

Now, Chang, I wouldn't be so hasty on turning down a CS. For years, I took a BM 970ST titanium knife to South Dakota. It had good corrosion resistance (food, dust, mud) and it stayed sharp for the whole two weeks. Besides, on vacation, who wants to sharpen when the mescal is chillin'? Then a friend wanted the 970ST, so I sold it to him. I've been thinking of a CS 4-inch plain edge clip point Voyager to take the place of the missing titanium knife. It will stay sharp for two weeks, and if I ding it or lose it, what's the problem? I've learned that EVERY knife has its charm. And what's this 'return the SOCOM for sharpening' thing in your last post? Don't you sharpen?--OKG

Chang, if you're selling your Edge-Pro, (and don't do it, man), then write to classified00@prodigy.net because I know he'll be interested. But, gee whiz, little cowpoke, you're only a few hours down the slab from my house--and I handload. Bring mom to church up here for the weekend. We'll shoot after Sabbath and you can keep your Edge-Pro!--OKG

OKG, sounds good, but I doubt my mother wants to drive me

... almost. Still learning to cruise around in that Buick!

I need to sell my Edge Pro, because I want my own rifle.

Shooting your stuff may be fun, but eventually I will just want my own guns. Thanks a lot for the offer, when I get my license, maybe we can meet or something.

*SCREAMS* I just dropped my SOCOM on the bathroom ceramic tiles (it rolled out of my pants when I was pulling my pants up after taking a dump)! A small scar on my knife now.
