MT17P - Mule Team Fixed Blade featuring K390

Got 2 coming and this will be my first Mule and now I have to find affordable handles and a sheath for at least one of them. :)

Halpern Titanium makes G10 scales for them and SheathPro (they're the ones that make Spyderco's Kydex) make great sheaths for them.

Got mine on order - x2!

I've decided to outfit the first one with a set of M3 Metal Composite handles. I haven't worked with this material before - but it is very interesting stuff. Works with woodworking tools, but finishes like metal.

Can't wait to see it Ted. You always do amazing work on your mules.

Same problem here but it eventually went through.

You guys are lucky.

Their web site crashed horribly, not a pretty sight. Same meltdown as KW had. And Spyderco was warned that this would happen.

I tried for over 2 hours with no luck, some force of the universe doesn't want me to have new Spyderco's.

Thanks I will check them both out. The ones on yours look like CF, it that what they are? :)

Oh, okay! Thanks!

Have you seen a guy on Ebay that sells the scales and a sheath? Prices are around $55 for both w/hardware. Is that a good price for everything?

i believe it's Oleg Krymlin, and he's been banned from this site. can't remember the details of why though, a search will tell you what i don't remember. i'm not saying good or bad about him, don't know him, never bought from him, but i do remember he got banned....and he's on ebay and his site selling sheaths and scales for the mules. like anything do your own research, don't listen to me.....i'm just passing along what i remember. hope that helps?

Ok, my 1st Mule Team is now on the way :)
Curious though, how many of the K390 MT17 have been made? Couldn't find that info on the SFO site.

Not sure if that number has been released officially. Usually there are not a ton of them released.

Thanks for the info. I will look somewhere else! :)

Expecting mine Tuesday or so, my first Spyderco and my first Mule. I have a chunk of Cocobolo waiting for it. I still don't know about the sheath question yet though. This may be the last knife I ever need...unless I start a Mule collection!

If this turns out to be as great as I think it'll be, I may even go to Tom Krien, if I can afford it!

So no word at all on number produced or target hardness?

Nope. :) Someone will probably test one and report. Spyderco is not meek about getting the HT right.

Looks like I have one on the way to Canada. :D I've been meaning to try my hand at scales and sheath making and I think this mule is going to for my hand haha. I missed out on the last couple of mules and jumped on this one without knowing anything on K390, nice to see you guys like it at least!

First mule on the way. This is gonna be really awesome; I had my fingers crossed that the next one would be non-stainless. Hopefully I'll be capable of reprofiling and polishing the edge.... As well as developing removable handle scales. I'm thinking grey/black micarta with brass hardware.

Are the mules sold directly to dealers or do you have to sign up somewhere to get one? I have never seen one available at any of the knife dealers here in Canada.
