Muela?

Muelas are great knives. They're not much different from Aitor. I believe they are generally 440C steel, which isn't bad. All the ones that I have had have been top notch. If you keep your eyes open you can find some for a steal.

I have had a couple of Muelas, and they are good knives, and usually at a good price. Good leather sheathes too.

Although not the best, my Muela (Jabali) has served me quite well for about 6 years now. So far I have no complaint about it.

Okay, not bad at all!
I'll just look into it a bit further... thanks guys! is there anything specifically good or bad?

A friend of mine has a Muela bowie that is his only fixed blade and has been beat on for ten years and its still holding up well. They seem to be a reliable knife.

Mmmm nice to see that you guys know about the two more important Spanish Knife Companies! My first decent knife (besiades SAK's I mean) was a Muela Cazorla. I guess it is a decent knife for a user... My only complain about Aitor and Muela so far is that they stay away from the new breed steels... All they do is 440C at best.

I can tell you about the Scorpion that it is a nice knife. I sharpened one of those once (from a friend of mine) and I liked it a lot. My friend's had a black plastic lined cordura sheat.

I have a Meula Mirage. Pretty good knife for the money. I've beaten it up pretty bad, that's to say, I used it with a hammer to demolish my kitchen before a new one went in. It stood up to the bashing pretty well. It just lost a bit of rubber on the end of the handle from where I hit it with the hammer about a thousand times, and the edge needs a good hit on a stone due to the ceramic tiles being so abbrasive. The knife isn't dead and and still has a lot of life left in it.

I also have an Aitor Oso Blanco, 1988 vintage. VERY good knife, even better than the Muela. It just seems to be finished off a lot better ie: neater grinds, nicer handle etc... and the blade is a little bit thicker, about 4mm.

If you want a good beater for not much money, Muela and Aitor a really good value.
