Muella knives?

Same opinion here as many of the other posters. I have a handy little camping knife from them. It's built really solid and has served me well. The edge does need more frequent touch ups than the "super steel" knives, but hey, that's what we Knife Knuts live for, right?

I want to buy a pair of small SS knives for myson and I for a trip we are taking this summer. We will be doing some flyfishing, camping, and bait fishing. I like the Muella Bison Small Stag Hunting Knife.

What can you tell me about this knife? Good/bad.

Hi Big Bo,

Muela is based in Toledo (Spain), the "Spanish Solingen". They make a great range of knives, most of their products are only good for decoration if you ask me, though they make a couple of decent ones too. The brand is to be compared with Herbertz. I owned two Muela knives during my childhood, wasn't impressed with them probably because they ware both made of 440A steel. They ware extreemly resistant to rust but they lost their edge very quickly. I currently own a Muela scooba diver knife made of high chrome steel, that one rusts (propably due to lack of care). :/

About this model:
good: full tang, styleish handle, versitile drop point bowie blade, practicle thumb rest.

bad: 440A steel, 440A steel, 440A steel, lack of index finger guard makes it unsafe for processing fish, stag handle is said to be uncomfortable for work (never owned one).

verdict: belongs to a show-case.

That's a nice looking pic of a Muela Tactical. It reminds me of a TOPS STORM CHASER I have. In fact it reminds me of several TOPS pieces.

Muela is based in Argamasilla de Calatrava. Ciudad Real, not in Toledo.
Toledo was a spanish Solingen, Sheffield or Seki city but now is more for tourism.
They use 440B ( Bo Randall too) and 440C. Depends on the type of knives.
There is something for everyone, but in general, high quality.
Tactical, artisan, hunter, bushcraft...and someone for weekend ninjas

I had a Muela knife for awhile. Got it in a trade. It was brand new and shaving sharp. I skinned probably three or four deer with it as well as used it as a kitchen knife. It had a Kraton handle and a very upswept blade style. I ended up selling it because I prefer stag handles and drop point blades. It did hold an edge very well though.

a friend of mine tested a 440C one, did 20 cust of nylon 20mm rope, not the best IMO
tried a couple, the look nice but cut little, very little

Well the Muellas are available locally. Is there another small fixed blade with a full sheath, SS and in my price range? $50-75 ea.
