Having modded a MicroMelt Mule, I brought it for a stroll in the woods.

Knife did good whittling a few sticks and cutting a some branches (from dead trees) for fuel.

Also batteled the ferocious instant noodle pouch with the Mule - and won.

Temps were nice, air crisp and there were a light sprinkling of snow on the ground.

A nice day.

I like to think that you just walked out for a hike with the sole intention of cooking noodles. That would be hilarious. Very nice photos regardless.

Huh ... not sure I understand - why would that be 'hilarious' even if one did?

I went outside with the express intention of taking a stroll in the woods outside my door.

Cant fathom, how that would strike anybody as hilarious...

My walks very often (most often - but not every time) included a brew of some kind.

Im a shameless gear freak and like to - you know - actually USE the knives and gear, I buy (that might sound alien to some, I know).

I often drink a cup of something or like in this instance combined with some instant noodles.

I like the break, the crisp air and the quiet in the midst of a forrest when pausing on a clear winter day.

Something about a quiet forest and a small fire going.

'Spose that could be 'hilarious' to some ... though that is usually not, how I label a stroll in the woods (shrugs).

You better continue to stay away from the bushcraft forums, if you think a stroll in the woods and a brew of some kind is 'hilarious':D:D:D

I might have starved, if I hadnt had the Mule along.
I circled the pouch and leapt - it was him or me!:D:D

It is ALWAYS best to attack!!!
Great thread brother.....loving the pics.

Nice pics. Looks like you ground a finger choil.

How do you like the little Spydie hump in the blade when trying to do woodcraft work?

I like the mods to the Mule, makes it a better looking knife overall and I bet it has a good grip.

Ya gotta watch those packs of noodles. Some of em have "Great gnashing teeth"!

Course it was the title that got me, being an equine kind of a guy.

Yes, attack is the best defense!
Those noodles can be shifty - best to go at them right away and get it over with.
Thx

What handle material is that ?
Linen micarta i.e. white bed sheets bought for the occasion.
Might be difficult to spot in the pics but there is some texture/folds visible within the scales.

Yes, I made a small choil with a Dremel.
It works fine - especially handy when considering the shorter handle.

I actually took off the top of the hump.
No big deal but I like it better this way.
It might not but I imagine it makes a bit of a difference.
Here is the 'before' pic with the original configuration of the hump:

Here the 'after' configuration with a bit of the hump removed:

It has an excellent grip though of course vastly different from stock.

I use the Mule like I do the small bushcraft knife pictured above; finger on the spine for fine work and the pommel or back of knife in the palm of my hand.

Dont feel like I have lost much control.

Without being one, the little Mule has an almost Sgian Dubh-like vibe to it.

Never turn your back to a pack of noodles!

Sry to have lured you here under false pretense:D
It wasnt a mule as part of the pack train for a cattle drive - maybe next time!

Great pics!
Love cooking on wood.
Nice work on that mule.
Thx

Nice mods. I have a 20cv Mule I really like and occasionally carry in a mecharness rig. The ONLY thing I don't like it about it is the sharpness of that little hump that's there. May try your approach and reduce it a bit.

No offense intended. I don't think it would be funny if you went for a hike and then made some noodles because you were hungry. I DO think it would be amusing if you were hanging out at home, then thought "I want some noodles," then went out into the woods just to cook the noodles. I think your cooking gear is rather neat, and I am quite envious of your foliage and outdoor hangouts.

In rgds to the above and your previous post on the subject.

Yes, the original configuration of the hump has a sort of steep incline so to speak.

In original configuration, the thumb would lean AGAINST the hump.

As the handle is shortened and as I added a choil and sometimes employ a grip using a forward grip with the index finger on/in the choil, my thumb would correspondingly have rested further forward on the sharp TOP of the hump instead of against it in the original hump config.

Now, with the more gentle slope of the bobbed hump, the hand hold is more comfortable, when/if I move forward on the Mule...., if that makes any sense.

Cool post BladeScout BladeScout .

The last time I spent a few days in the woods, I would have killed for those noodles. Fishing and hunting in the snow is actually much harder for city boys with little equipment than it looks on TV. Imagine that? ;)
