Mule in the woods.

Horses in the woods. Planning our attack, but not on noodles. The cattle are at the top of the far ridge to the right. Planning how to get up there without killing said horses and bring the cattle down. Got er done. This was Saturday, no snow here.

Cool post BladeScout BladeScout .

The last time I spent a few days in the woods, I would have killed for those noodles. Fishing and hunting in the snow is actually much harder for city boys with little equipment than it looks on TV. Imagine that? ;)

Noodle hunting in the wild is tougher than one might think. The packets can be small and hard to spot and the fact that they don't tend to move much means you don't have those little shifts in position to catch your eye. The vitals are pretty small so you have to be very precise with your shot placement. If you are using too large a caliber you risk ruining a lot of the edible part of the carcass. If you are fortunate enough to bring one down you still have to gut it and skin it before you can eat it and that requires a sharp knife and very precise technique. On top of that, if you bring down a trophy packet and want to get the head mounted it is tough to find a taxidermist that is qualified to work on it. Definitely not something you would want to take on if you are not up to a good challenge.

This is a closely guarded secret but Ill divulge it here, if you promise to tell no one; Noodle sniffing dogs is the way to locate the small buggers!

You heard about truffle sniffing dogs and Wiener dogs - same thing, but different!

You post some excellent ones.

Thanks. Young man standing on the right took that photo. He's a Captain in the Air Force and comes help us when he can. Just for info that's me in the blue shirt and I'm a pretty big guy at 6'4" and 230 ish. Obviously the Capt is quite a bigger guy.

Here's another of his shots of some of my crew on the climb up after the cattle. All on his phone.

Your photos take it back to the old days of the west, except with cell phone.:D Do you still have to cook out on the range or have a chuck wagon? Are there still any cattle drives or just rounding the herd up?

It's never too late to start exercising! :p:D

Great pics, BladeScout! I really need to get back in the woods...
Sheesh, the ground isn't the only thing I can't see, going to the loo can be a real guessing game!

I kid, we have to much snow on the ground for me to go out and play in the woods. It's bad enough I have to go cut wood in the damn fluffy stuff.
