I got this blade to see what S35VN is and love it!
The steel finish is similar to S30V from Strider:

It is sharp and cuts like a chef :)

It is also very capable of hard working chores:thumbup:

I am getting Halpern scales and a leather sheath for the knife. We will see if this blade will end up in the kitchen (that's what it seems to me at the moment) or somewhere else :)

What do you owners of this MT06 beauty use it for? :) :) :)

Yes, I have been very impressed by the S35VN. I bought a CRK Nyala as well, so I'm in fixed blade S35VN heaven.

just started a tread asking how to get one.......so how?

Try the for sale by individuals forum here or the big auction site.

I love the MT06. I quickly cord wrapped mine and did some quick testing myself (cardboard, nylon rope, food prep and whittling). I was happy that the edge retention is there big time. I too love the beadblasted finish on the blade, I guess this is an extra step opposed to having a naked grind. I'd like to have a Military with this steel including the beadblasted treatment. I feel like it would be a winner for sure.
Please Sal!

Now with Halpern scales (gray, Option 3) with a little mod I did to open up the hole for a lanyard.

I also opted for a cheap Buck leather sheath, which fits perfectly with this slightly thinner than other colors gray Halpern scales:

It is tight and secure.

BTW, yesterday I did more blade abuse (posted more pics on the other thread too) :)

The blade took it all with no degradation of any kind. I am very impressed with the steel so far!:thumbup::thumbup:

After a little TLC today with a superfine DMT diamond stone and a bit of leather stropping

It is sharper than ever :)

From opening boxes, to kitchen duty, mine gets used evey day. Great edge and sharpens well.

Don't leave it in a leather sheath though, it will stain. Otherwise, this is a very good steel, certainly for this type of knife.

Phil, just for clarity, you're referring to S35VN?

John
Yep. I recently posted a pic of a brand new sheath made for my Mules. It's a kydex sheath with leather lining. The MT05 does not stain, the MT06 does. Ever so slightly, but it does. So store it outside the leather sheath (which is always better anyway) or lightly oil the blade when outdoors.

Interesting, and thanks. The new CRK FB (Nyala) is S35VN and comes in a leather sheath. I wonder if there will be issues.

Leather is not good for the steel, as leather absorbs moisture from the air and can therefore rust your blade. I never had any issues with the s30v though. We will see what will happen to s35vn. My knife is a user, so I do not mind trying. Also, it's quite dry here in Ca, where I am :)

BTW the sheath has plastic insert which should help prevent rusting

What's left from a wrap became the lanyard :)

I believe they only make a 600 count run of each new steel they want to test. this one is already sold out on the spyderco store and discontinued.

there are two choices i know of now.

woodcraft has the 30v steel

and spyderco has another buts its not a mule...

i hope that helps you, i am just as new at this as you. this is all i could gather so far. Anyone with more knowledge, your help is appreciated.

This is what the seller I bought it from said:
BRAND NEW MINT MAROON LEATHER KNIFE SHEATH FROM BUCK. 7" OVERALL.3 1/2" DEEP POUCH. FRONT EMBOSSED "BUCK KNIVES". SNAP MARKED"BUCK". THESE ARE CONSIDERED SECONDS BECAUSE MODEL NUMBER IS NOT MARKED ON BACK. LOOKS SAME AS A 191 BUT SHORTER.

Hope this helps. The sheath is just right for the Mule :)
