It will be interesting to see what the demand for this MT will be.

Haven't been following the knife steel wars recently but this is a comparison of MagnaCut to MagnaMax for those who were as unaware of it as I was:

It's not like I need another MT but I may buy one after its release if there are still a few lying around.

Demand should be high because flippers will be involved on this drop.

I’ve heard “stainless K390” performance thrown around!

Hopefully there was enough material made to make a decent sized run, If not it may sell out first day, most likely the PE version!

Below is a quote attributed to Larrin regarding the properties of MagnaMax that I found on a German knife website.

The intro to the quote was as translated by Google translate. Date of the post was 05/05/2025. Don't know the date of the quote attributed to Larrin.

. . .

Hello,

Dr. Larrin Thomas briefly published the name and general properties of his latest metallurgical development "MagnaMax" on his Instagram profile today:

"Can finally say the name and general properties for the upcoming steel MagnaMax from @niagaraspecialtymetals This has had several temporary names like Proto that grade. Another way to think of it is the same properties as CPM 10V or K390 but stainless. More information in the coming weeks and months.

I can't access IM but anyone who can can verify if & when this was actually posted to Larrin's profile page or not.

Bought 1 of each too. Both sold out w/in about 10-15 mins after release.

Didn't think I'd be able to buy one because usually when I log into these things, Spydie's computer bogs down &/or locks up requiring multiple log-ins or refreshes to get into the site/page.

Not so this time. 🤷‍♂️

---------------------------------------

It was actually the smoothest & easiest new release purchase I've ever made on Spyderco's site.

Logged in at 8 PST/9 MST. Had to refresh the MagnaMax page a couple of times (about 5-10 secs) before purchases were allowed, placed my order & paid thru PayPal in nothing flat.

So, looks like Spyderco has been working on upgrading/improving their computer system.👏👏👏

---------------------------------------

I also noticed that the serrated version sold out 1st by a few mins.

So, were fewer of them made or was there actually more demand for the SpyderEdge?🤔

Sal, please let us know which.

---------------------------------------

Also cross posted this msg to Official Spyderco Forum's MagnaMax thread where I'm checking for updates. This is a link to page 5 of the thread. Purchase comments begin on Page 3:

Congrats to those who purchased! Thanks to Kristi and team for beefing up the website to handle the more popular drops!

Some people on the Official Spyderco Forum still complained that they had problems in making a purchase but most of those problems seem to have been related to a defect in the payment link between Spyderco & PayPal. I had no such problem.

Same for me - I only wanted the plain edge and was able to get one.

I'm not typically one to jump at the latest steel, but I've been wanting a Mule for a while and this seemed like a good opportunity.

As an aside, it's interesting that there are still AEB-L & Ceramic HIC Mules available for sale on Spyderco's website.

I bought the AEB-L later (there never was much demand for that 1) but I was in on the release for the Ceramic which was CRAZY & a glitch filled experience. o_O

They had a limited supply of Ceramics because of production problems so they sold out quick but, after they made more later, the demand disappeared and now they're just sitting on the shelf. 🤷‍♂️

What a fickle bunch we knife collector/users are. LOL!!! ;)

AEB-L isn’t the newest latest greatest 😒 and people can’t sharpen the Ceramic mule, With most coming dull supposedly. Also flippers can’t make a profit because it’s $150 ! Most of the fast sellouts happen when the secondary “buyers”realize there’s some profit to be had. Unfortunately
