Multi-day Backpackers: What fixed blade do you carry?

lots of good suggestions here.... i have done countless multi-day backpacking trips and i always carry a fixed blade of some sorts, accompanied by a SAK....
the fixed blade is usually in the 3-4 in. range...

there are a lot of great makers here on the forums, you should check them out... i think there are a few different breeden knives that would work for you just fine....

I don't go out in the woods without my F1 unless it is going to be a couple of hour jaunt.

I usually take my F1 and my spydie Military backpacking. To me they complement each other well and I have two blades (besides my Leatherman) that are up to just about any cutting task with enough redundancy that if one were to be made unusable the other can fill it's shoes.

I carried my BRKT E.L.K and my Swiss Army OHT on my last 7 day hike through zion national park. It was a blast.

You mentioned the Busse Active Duty as being too heavy. Check out the Boney Active Duty... it's thinner and lighter (and a better performer because of it). I picked one up this fall and it's become an instant favorite.

I also like to carry a Fallkniven F1 or an old Blackjack Woodsman.

If weight is a big concern, you really won't be able to beat the Mora, in wood or plastic handle styles!

Stay sharp,

I haven't gotten it out on the trail yet but here is the knife I am taking on my next multi-day trip.
ULBC_Right_Facing.jpg

The Bark River Ultra-light Bushcraft knife.
(I own 2 and have one put away for my son)
A lot of knife for 2.37 oz.
Here is a review

Right now, probably my Dumpster Mutt CG. It has a 5" blade and it's thick so I know it can handle anything.

(mines is the coated one, the convexed one belongs to Tiny and was modded by Ban)

Hopefully soon, I'd go with Ban's BT4.

I've carried my Ontario Rat-3 many times in the Adirondacks. It's served me well, but I've been slowly paring down the weight of my backpacking gear and I often just carry a light folder that's been more than enough for me. If I were heading out to more remote locales, I might choose another bigger knife, but I think the Mora Triflex I just got will be a nice compromise. A reasonably stout blade, sharp as hell and really light.
