multi purpose knife wanted!

Just get an Al Mar SERE 2000 and be done with it.

Threads aren't closed because you think you've seen enough. Others learn from this as well... For example, no one has said that you'd be crazy buying a titanium knife unless you really need either its non-magnetic signature (you are probing for mines?) or its extreme corrosion resistance (you're in salt water all the time?). If you don't really need titanium then don't get it cause it can't be hardened beyond what are the very low 50's on the Rockwell scale, making for a tough, but soft knife by modern standards.

You want a fixed blade, because you just can't chop with a folder.

Falkniven blades, being European, are probably your best bet from a cost/performance point of view! There are likely a hundred good quality knives in the $100-$300 range (I think the dollar has parity with the Euro about now) that meet your criteria. If its "got to be one" then you'll just have to do the hard work and choose!

:) i was kidding when i asked for closing this thread ... no offense meant.

i just come back from a long, yet fruitfull discussion with a knifemaker in my neighbourhood. i took all the pictures of knives i favour, showed him, told him my expectations and he is going to quote. i will see what can be done. and i will let you know.

regards

knife-nut-bug-bitten,

Actually, I'm waiting for a Ti knife from Larry Ramey that should be here in a week. I think Ti would be great for a light use necker.

I'm waiting on a Ti necker from Ramey too Solid, probably in the same batch. Which one did you go for?

I'm going to use it as a jogging necker, light but there if I need it.

I got the 5.5" necker, but had him grind some of the top so it's a reverse tanto with a 1/2" sharpened on the top edge. Can't wait to get it.

And my excuse? It's my first knife in all Ti... just had to get one.
