Multi tool trivia questions ?

Hi Doug,

This is great fun (and a great way to learn). Please keep it going.

Joe :cool:

Doug,
I agree with Joe, please do continue. And by the way, when you get tired of being the host, I suggest that we turn this quiz around and see if all of us can stump YOU.
~Bob

Okay you two , Bob and Joe ,

Now I am going to make the two of you really do your homework .

The catagory is electricians multi tools , only those that have a knife blade as one of thier implements ( after all this is the blade forums ) . These tools can be electrician plier heads with graduated wire strippers combined with other implements in a multi tool configuration or a blade that has one side has been modified with a graduated scale of half circles for the purpose of wire stripping , these tools have a needle nose pliers head . Tools with a single v - notch wire stripper are not part of this question .

One manufacturer is well known to this board .

One is another of the earlier multi tool manufacturers .

Another multi tool manufacturer made three models , one in its own name and two under a different label of a well known tool manufacturer .

A fourth manufacturer made one not under its own name but under the name of yet another tool makers name ( hint this last name is associated with electricians tools ) .

Mix them , match them , try for any portion of the question .
Have fun

Okay, I've only got a few minutes before I have to leave for the whole weekend. Not a lot of time to research, so I'm going to throw out a few ideas from memory here.

The first electrician's multitool that comes to mind is the Leatherman Squirt EL. (Which reminds me, I haven't got one of these cuties yet)

Another that I remember (and the first one that I remember ever seeing) is the Crescent ToolZall Techician.

Crescent also had their name on another, better constructed model, the ToolZall Electrician Pro. I believe this tool was built by Bear Jaws MGC.

................and that's all that comes to mind. Darn it Doug, I can't think of one with the half-circle blade notching you are hinting about.

Okay Joe, I'm leaving the rest of this question in your hands. I'll talk to you guys Monday. Have a good weekend!

Hi Doug,

Bear Jaws also marketed the Electrician as #155EL under their name.

Joe ,

I empathize with you , it was too early in the morning to be answering questions . You probably had not had your morning coffee yet . If no one ventures a guess/answer by tommorrow evening I will tell you # 6 .

So far we have Bob who answered the Leatherman Squirt EL which can be seen at ;

http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?cookie_test=1&catalog_name=CTLG&product_id=64-2912

Bob also answered the Crescent ToolZall Techician which I could not find currently on the internet and he also answered the Crescent ToolZall Electrician Pro which can be seen at ;

http://www.kiesub.com/misctools.htm

A picture of it is there although they say it is discontinued , another site that does not have a picture of it but lists it as available is at ;

http://www.mcmelectronics.com/NewarkWebCommerce/mcm/en_US/support/services/HotDeals.jsp

It is listed at the bottom of thier page for $19.95 , a bargain for this tool . It is well made , a full size multi tool 4 inches closed .

Joe answered correctly that Bear Jaws currently lists one in thier catalog the model 155EL: 4" Electrical Bear Jaws which can be seen at ;

http://www.bearcutlery.com/

Joe also answered the BuckTool 360-FL (File)which is no longer currently available though it is sometimes can be found on ebay .

Last the one that no one answered ( though somewhere on this board I seem to remember someone said they had one ) is the Klien tripsaver ( actually made by Kutmaster ), a site that illustrates this one with all its features can be seen at ;

http://www.kleintools.com/Multi-Tool/multi-tool.html

It is listed as available at ;

http://www.mytoolstore.com/klein/1016.html

Automobile/motorist related multi tools

Now lets see if you fellows have been reading all the posts on the board . This will be an easy question for someone to answer . Lets get some more people involved here .

There are/were two multi tools made with dedicated functions that a motorist would use . Two different multi tools , two different big name manufacturers .
Answer make and model and anything else that you want to say about it please .

Hi Doug,

The first of this is the now-discontinued Victorinox Auto Tool.

Joe

And we have a winner ( at least half of it ) .

Now if someone goes to an earlier posting on the board on the Victorinox Auto Tool , they will find the information necessary to answer the last half of this question .

Hi Guys. Made it back from the camping trip. The other half of the answer to this one is the Porshe Design tool by Wenger. It's got a tire tread depth gauge as one of it's implements. Weird. This tool is kind of pricey and "stylish", not the sort of thing I'd expect the employees at my local Firestone dealer to carry. (I wonder if anyone, anywhere, has ever actually used this device to check their tread depth?)

Hey Doug, I can see by the way you asked that last question that you were trying to get some new blood into this quiz. I agree. Is it just the three of us here? Suggestion: I see this thread has slipped down the list a ways from the top. Maybe we should end this one, and continue on a new thread that would be at the top of the list? (I'm new here, so speak up if you guys don't think this is a good idea)

And Bob is right . The Wenger Porsche design tool can be seen at ;

The Victorinox Autotool can be found many places still on the internet although it has been discontinued . One site that still lists it is at :

http://www.sportsannex.com/SportsAnnexAccessoriesSwissKnives.html

If you really want one you can probably find it cheaper if you execute a search .

Hi Bob ,

Everytime that someone posts a reply it goes back to the top of the list as you can now see . Yes , I was trying to draw in some others . I can see by the numbers on the right of the listings that at least some of the others are reading the posts . I tried to make the last question easy but ( shrug ) .
Oh well if they just want to be voyeurs that is all right , we will go on having our fun . I will let you post a question after I get back i will be gone for a few days . But before I leave I will leave you and Joe and anyone else that cares to particapate a good head scratcher .

The next question /category will be what I would call multi tools for first response people . The tools that come to my mind include such implements as seat belt cutters , windshield breakers , handcuff key . Implements such as EMT's , policeman , fireman , would use . I can think of one by a well known maker that everyone should know . I know of two others at least . I am sure that you will have fun with this question Bob . Maybe some of you will come up with more ? Hey Dunc , I rember reading that you are a first aider so this question should be of interest to you . See you when I get back .

Hmmmm. I've seen the hammer-type tools (for breaking windshields) that have a slit-knife in the handle (for cutting seat belts). I'm not very familiar with them though. Are these what you are referring to Doug?

Hi Doug yes the life hammer springs to mind , the one i have is a orange plastic handle with a metal hammer head and a seat belt cutter in the other end (i think a very big mag lite might be good for breaking car windows aswell and at night you can see what your doing at the same time ).My leatherman supertool 200 has a serrated sheepsfoot blade which correct me if im wrong was put on the tool by Lm as direct feedback from EMT crews but i dont have much info on this so would be very pleased if anyone could shed a bit more light on this (the idea with a sheepsfoot blade is the tip is rounded so you can slide it under cloathing whithout fear of the piont digging in the casualty , you still have to be carefull though ).Eickhorn do a range of rescue knives that could loosely be could multitools as they have some rescue features on them http://www.eickhorn-solingen.com/englisch/framesets/firefighting/frameset_firefighting.html another one that springs to mind is the smith and wesson 911 rescue knife .
And the charge xti has a hook blade which could work for seatbelts.Im sure there must be many more .

dunc

I'll get things started.....Right or Wrong. :D

I know Coleman makes a window breaker, belt cutter, flashlight in a couple models.

I happen to know of Nov8Safety....they make a little guy called ResQMe......as well as a couple versions of the better known LifeHammer Rescue tool.

And you might even say TOOL LOGIC and their knife/flashlight or firestarter/whistle combo.

Not sure if this is the right direction I'm heading with your question.....but hey, at least we're moving.

Bill

PS.
lonediver, if you have a booth or display at the AKCA show in November, I'll be sure and look you up.
