Multi-tool vs. SAK

Holy Crap it's DRM :flippoff2:

Leatherman here but I'm leaning more towards a SAK and pliers. I HATE the wire cutters on the leatherman.

Great minds think alike :D

So do weak minds

Among my friends, people who deal a lot with electronics or specifically want to have pliers despite the weight usually own Leatherman. Other - SAKs. Each side tries to give me proper explanation why (weight, tools, convenience), but I think it really boils down to what you are used to use.

I guess it really is just personal choice.

I have the newer wave with the PE and SE blades and its great to have both, is there a SAK that has both blades and the most important tool of all, the bottle opener?:D

I cant help but notice that the SAK is more popular amoung the wilderness formites than the leatherman style multi-tools. Why?

What am I missing by carrying my leatherman. I'm a tech. so I really need the pliers but I really dont see why anyone wouldn't want them in the outdoors.

Any thoughts?
I like my leatherman Ti for its clip + it has much much much better steel then any of the victorinox sak's!!!!! But when i go out on survival ex i bring both

Can a Victorinox SwissTool be correctly termed a SAK?

Victorinox even refers to their SAKs as "multi-tools" these days....

Na, thats a multi-tool, looks good but I really LOVE my leatherman.

My biggest thing is speed, I'm a plastics tech. and when working, high speed and dexterity is prime because the last thing I want is a few ounces of plastic "cooking" a foot from my face at 600 degrees for any longer than it has too, get in and out quick.

My EDC is a CRKT M1 with a carson flipper and the leatherman, both high speed for me. All that carries over to my outdoor life, those two are like an extension of my hand at this point and when, say, fishing or camping I find myself reaching for them over and over.

I have a really hard time switching tools now, I went from a Gerber Multi-tool to the leatherman and had the hardest time deploying the LM for a while, now it's second nature, same with knives, I want to go to a spyderco Manix for EDC but I'm dreading the switch.

The only thing wrong with a Leatherman (or similar multi tool) is that it doesn't have a comfortable grip when using the knife.

I have so many well designed knives with excellent grip that it bugs me having to use anything less.

If I had to choose, I would carry the LM in preference to a SAK, but I usually carry both.
