What are your experiences with multi-tool warranty replacement and/or repair?

I bought another SOG PowerLock (no, I don't have enough already! :p) and there was a flaw in the manufacturing of one of the handles. I own a lot of SOG PowerLocks (and other SOG multi-tools) and I've never had a problem so I wasn't worried--accidents happen at every factory. I called SOG and a friendly customer service representative talked to me about the issue and advised me to send the PowerLock to them.

I didn't mention that I would be posting the outcome on Bladeforums! Heh... Heh...Heh... I thought this would be a great opportunity to put one of my favorite multi-tool manufacturers to the test.

I was expecting them to repair it and that would have been fine. But two weeks later I received a brand new SOG PowerLock in the retail box! Woo hoo! On top of that, they included a refund of my shipping costs! Now that's great customer service!

It doesn't get any better than that. I have had good luck with both Leatherman and Victorinox. Victorinox is slow but they do come through. Leatherman sent me a replacment tool super fast.

I broke that little prong off of the bottle cap lifter of my SwissTool. I was using it to hook under the head of a rusted pivot pin, and really pulling on it when it broke. Obviously the thing wasn't designed for that much force. I wrapped it up and sent it back to Victorinox with a letter honestly describing how I broke it. They sent me a whole new tool, and sheath.

I've also heard that Leatherman is very good as well, and Buck too with their guarantees.

My Leatherman PST failed, and Leatherman replaced it with a brand new Leatherman Blast- talk about service. Vic performed equally well when a SAK backspring went.

I've had great luck with both companies as well. Have had to deal with them several times (my fault) and each time they came through as promised

About 4 years ago I sent a Gerber non-locking multi-plier to Geber to have some nicks sharpened out of the cutting jaws, they sent me a new locking tool to replace it. In the last year I have also sent two Leatherman tools, a Super tool and a Wave, to Leatherman with one of the needle nose jaws broken on each. They replaced the jaws and had them both back in less than 3 weeks. Both companies were outstanding to deal with.

my first gen. leatherman wave's scissors started to get sticky from I wont say what, and the store exchanged it for the 2nd generation wave and gave me cash back for the drop in price which occurred over the years. So I got a new/better tool and 15-25$ bucks back :)

They just send you a new one!

Kershaw warranty is great. Needed a few screws for my Kershaw multi and they sent me complete screw, bolt, spacer and spring kits no questions asked. 9 kits, 37 pieces total, received it in 3 days, cross country to boot.

Actually... this is timely.... Not sure wtf, but I emailed leatherman asking for parts (replacement blade) 2 weeks ago, then once more last week. No response yet. Anyone else had any trouble reaching them?
They seemed to be quick in responding when I emailed them a year ago.

And while not really known for their multi-tools, I've been surprised (in a good way) again and again by CRKT.

My Leatherman Wave was sent back for repair last November '07 and is still not back. :'(

I live in the Philippines and sent my tool back thru the authorized distributor here (Hahn's).

Took my Leatherman SuperTool into Leatherman Canada rep the other day. I got many years of reliable service and it had paid for itself 100x over. Two screwdrivers had worn out, wirecutters were done, and the serrated was dull.
He said it was made in 1995 and they don't make that one any more. He handed me a Leatherman CORE as a replacement. Now I can't put it down!!!

Must be the Super glue. That stuff is really sticky. :D
But I had a similar experience. After 10 years of excellent performance, I gave my Super Tool, still in good working condition, to a deserving friend, replacing it with a Core, basically an updated ST that kept all the good stuff and corrected all the not so good. Although I own and enjoy the use of several other Leathermen, if I could have only one, that would be it (provided I could stash a Micra for scissors, or would that be cheating? :D).

I'm only a light user of multi tools so I have never broken one. I did lose the small eyeglass bit from a Leatherman Blast a couple of years back. It was entirely my own fault and I emailed Leatherman's UK distributor to enquire how much it would be to replace it. They sent out a new bit the following day at no cost.

I only have Leatherman's and am confident that they will sort any problems I may have.
