multi-tool?

your saying Leathermans "25" year warranty is better than Victorinox's "Lifetime" warranty? or SOG's Lifetime or even Gerbers Lifetime warranty?

I'll bet the plantation, the riverboat and the hand of sweet Cindy Lou that Leatherman will continue to service under warranty beyond 25 years, no matter what they have stipulated. Unfortunately, I expect to be dead before this gets tested, so it's an empty gesture, but still. Any takers? :D

To their credit they have accepted "over 25" year stuff so far, but how long will that last, your willing to bet on that, even though it's not in writing? you must be a gambler! LOL

Warranty nothing......it's just like life insurance....

you either get the "til the day that I die" plan, which means that the company will find a reason to null your warranty,

or

you get the term life insurance which means that they will take care of you but they will be pissed about it since they expected you to outlast the term without problems :D

Every manufacturer has a different take on 'Lifetime' = 20 to 30 years usually and not '4 score and 10', but I was actually referring to LM's response to warranty claims and excellent customer service, which has been substantiated by many posts in this and other forums. That is not to say that other manufacturer's don't also have great customer service but LM's is one of the best

Are the Schrade multi-tools any good? I've only ever owned Leatherman and Victorinox, however my brother just got a Schrade for Christmas (came over from Cali) and he asked if it was good or not, and I didn't know what to say. I have never owned them, nor did I ever plan on it. I have around 8-10 Leathermans, and never saw the need to switch, aside from an occasional use with the Swiss Tool.

I like the old USA-made Tough Chip for use as a scissors, but I don't use the other blades. The current version is made in China and I've read some unflattering comments about it.

I didn't like the Schrade ST-1 Tough Tool and sold it. It was wider than most other tools when closed.

The blades clumped together and were very difficult to access -- even after repeated lubrication and use. Riveted construction prevented any adjustment. No wonder some have nicknamed this the Schrade "Tough to Open" Tool.

I had the USA-made version. They are made in China now.

like stated, older Schrade wasn't bad, but I've read very poor things about them (no other MT has more complaints IMO), I wouldn't get one! But if you use it lightly, and not depend on it for important stuff, it could be alright.

No, just an old guy. For me, a 25 year warranty is about equal to a bona fide lifetime version. After 25 years, even assuming either company is still in business, I believe that warranty repairs will be among the least of my concerns, if I have any at all.
