Multi-Tools AGAIN !!!

As most of you know the plethera of multi-tools out there can be bewildering for the first time buyer. I've posted several times with questions about these mini-wonders, and gotten great advise here, but came away as confused as ever. When I finally went shopping I had several models I wanted to see, the Gerber legend, the Leatherman Supertool, the SOG powerlock, etc....I wasn't able to find them all in one place but most places had several, allowing me to compare two or three models side by side, on several diffrent occasions. Working in a medical environment, and not being involved in any kind of construction work or anything, I decided I didn't need the big heavy models I had been looking at, and had pretty much narrowed my selection of small and midsized tools, down to the Leatherman Wave. I shopped around for prices and found, you guessed it, Walmart had the best price. I went there to get something else, and decided to go ahead and take the plunge while I was there. I went to the sporting-goods counter, and asked to see the leatherman wave, and there was this cute little orange Juice S2 sitting there screaming "Look how cute I am". Even though I thought I'd made up my mind, and came there having already decided to get the Wave, I asked to see the Juice. It had the essential tools I wanted. The blade could be opened without completely deploying the tool. It had the tools I consider essential, a bottle opener, standard and phillips screwdrivers, and the pliers capible of cuttin small wire. The scissors wheren't essential to me, but I'd rather have them than files, awles, sawblades, or corkscrews, etc... The tools didn't lock, but the springs where strong, and it's diminutive size made the Wave seem posatively massive. Since I don't work in an environment where this tool is likely to see heavy use, I gave in to the cute factor! I bought the Juice! I got home, and a few strokes on a ceramic crock sticks rendered it's blade razor sharp. I like that it's so portable that I can drop it in my pocket, and not even notice it's there. No belt sheath needed. I carry another knife, but I think I'll probably carry this one more than I'd ever have carried anything heavier. The more I play with it, the better I like it. I think I'll eventually go back an get the Wave, but think this little juice is just the neatest little tool for someone like me, who isn't likely to subject it to heavy or extensive use!

Although they are definetly light weight I agree that the juice series is the best for an "office" environment. Our family has orange , yellow , blue and grape juices and they get carried most every day.

The only one they had was the Orange, and that's cool because that's the one I would have chosen. I compare it to my Victorinox Pocket Pals, and hate to say it, but they've just been upstaged. The Juice is about the same size and weight, has more useable tools, is just as sharp, and looks even less "INTIMIDATING" than a pocket pal, if that's possible.

JD, if you decide to get the Wave, check out a Lowe's Home Improvement (I just looked on their site, and there are six of them listed in San Antonio).
The local one had Waves on clearance for $33.95 a couple of weeks ago when I was in there. Thinking I'll go back and get a couple for gifts if they have any left.
Worth a look, I paid ~$65 for mine...

I love the juice tools. I have the C2 (the red one) and the XE6 (purple), and have found them to be excellent for EDC and very compatible with an office environment.

I really like them too. I have the CS4 and it gets regular use around the apartment for odd jobs and also at work.:)

While I prefer the supertool for work the Kf4
yellow juice ( a smaller version of the supertool)
has become my tool of choice in the office where I
work now. Funny thing is I've ben suprized by the
amount of work, that little juice can do:D

So If a small leatherman will do it then that's way
better than no leatheman at all:eek:

JD, San Antonio has laws against locking blade knives and the Wave has a locking blade. Are multitools an exception?

I've got the grey Kf4 and the orange S2. I'm always talking up the Juice line of tools, so it almost goes without saying...I AGREE!! :D

By the way, I sent a list of suggestions to Leatherman back in December. It took a long time for them to get back to me, but the response was a very nice point-by-point discussion. I won't go into all details in this thread, but one thing is worth mentioning. One of my suggestions was for a Juice model based on a shears, rather than a pliers. The person responding indicated that many people had asked for this item, and they thought that it was a good idea. I really hope that the idea turns into an actual product. An S2 with a shears instead of pliers, and the small scissors on the outside replaced with a serrated blade, would be suh-weeeeeet...;) :D

I've owned a wave for a few years now and absolutely love it. However it can be a bit heavy to carry around all the time, so I recently got the orange juice, too. I agree that it is great. Its the perfect size for EDC. It fits comfortably in my left front pocket and can handle most of the tasks I find myself faced with throughout the day. I now carry it all the time and then just add my wave to my belt when I'm going to work. Gotta love the juice!

State law says no knives with blades longer than 5.5", San Antonio says no knives with fixed or locking blades, less than 5.5" the two conflict, to essentially prohibit everything. Even a butter knife and a box cutter violate the law here. Enforcement is arbitrary, depending more on the LEO's mood than on the law. It basicly boils down to taking your chances and hoping you don't run into an LEO with a chip on his shoulder, or not carrying anything at all. Even then you're not really safe. It sucks, but I think you have a better chance of a cop being cool about a multi-tool, than with just about anything else. Hate to say this about my own town, but there is such a problem here with selective enforcement and conflicting laws, it doesn't really matter what you do, law enforcment here does whatever they want, to whomever they want, and nobody will do a damn thing about it. Even the lawyers and judges are afraid of them.
