multicolor dyed bone

I have tried a search but can only find ways to dye a solid color . Has anyone dyed bone multicolored , sort of like mastadon ivory or bone? I`m not trying to "make mastadon bone " , but I would like to make some multicolor , almost blotchy looking knife scales .If you have done this , would you share how you did it ?

Perhaps start by using a light colour and then going on to darker ones ? I did try some bone dying but never had much success with it. Frank
