Are you one of those knife collectors who buys multiple "high value knives" in one sitting (spyderco tenacious, byrd series, kershaw skyline, kershaw chill, sog flash, crkt drifter, ect, ect ,ect...), or do you save up your pennies and go for the "high end production knife" (benchmade mchenry williams, 940 osbourne, spyderco persian, sog toothlock ect...) I personally change between the two buying statigies... what about you?:):):):)

I love getting the best knife for the money, but sometimes i kick myself thinking I coulda bought a Strider, Sebenza, etc. after buying a bunch of em. Still it is nice to have a collection, and I don't think anyone on this forum could be satisfied with only one knife, no matter how nice. I guess I do both as I have value folders (Persistence, Lahar, etc.) and also some high dollar ones (ZT0300, BM 31 Morpho, etc.). I just haven't broken into the semi-custom, really damn expensive market yet (Sebenza, SNG, etc.). Key word yet.

Same here... I currently draw the line at 200 dollars! and thats a stretch sometimes

I never thought i"d EVER pass the 200mark, i was fine collecting my Benchmades.... but i just spent 700 on a custom:eek::eek:

I am at the lower end. I have found the set of knives that work for me, and therefore have felt no need to purchase more. if i could sell my entire collection for what i got it for, I MIGHT be able to buy a small sebbie. however, i think i would prefer my collection to that.

One nice knife is better in the long run. Because you usually need only one folder it would make sense to have 1 really good one. This would be ideal but some people prefer the satisfaction of getting a new knife over the practicality of it. Our taste change also so it's better to say waste $40 on a knife Instead of $300. So one nice knife would be a better option but it isn't practical.

I have one "high end" knife, my Benchmade 930. To be honest I paid half the retail of it though, and even at $100 it was the most expensive knife I've ever bought. Well worth the money though, because I really like it and I've been carrying it pretty much every day for a year since I bought it.

Otherwise I mostly like to by the "value" knives such as Kershaws, and I got an ESEE Izula too, some Case slippies, etc.

As I got older I was able to afford more expensive knives (after I'd taken care of most everything else). Back when, I'd pass on expensive knives. There are much better "expensive" knives these days and with inflation, they're actually a bargain. I still look for good bang for the buck. e.g. Spyderco M4 Military, S90V Paramilitary2, Busse NMSFNO, DSSF, etc.

I was there too...soon you'll spend more.:D
(and then the $200 knives will look like "value priced" knives:eek:)

Exactly what I was going to respond, I look at my Benchmade 940 as a value knife (not a beater blade, but high value)

I oscillate between the two. I need a steady flow of value blades to carry me between the more expensive ones. Then sometimes I will temporarily get sick of one or the other.

Also this. It's a progressive, relentless disease.

Yup, perception is everything..."Well if I just eat Ramen noodles for twice as long...add 1...carry the 2..." BAM! Say hi to your $400 + knives. :D

I just buy what I like at the time. That could be a $40 Boker, a $120 Spyderco, a $200 ZT, a $400 Mid-Tech, or a $900 custom. If I want it and I have the means, I buy it.

I just buy what strikes my fancy -- high value, low value, whatever. I actually don't need anymore knives but I keep buying anyway. Back in the day when I was relatively poor, I always bought the best I could get for the money I had.
