MICKEY YURKO HAWKBILL

This is direct from the maker in late January 2014. I've never used it; I only drew it in/out of the sheath. 3/16" inch blade thickness and 7/8" blade depth. Feels good in the hand. Black G-10 handle with moonglow spacers and clear purple pins. The blade is 3" with an OAL of 7.875".

Here's how Mickey described it to me by email in response to several questions I had:

"This Hawkbill was the first one of this new design. I am left-handed, so I stamp my name on the left side of the blade. Markings on the right side are a type of steel 440c, and the number of the knife I made (so through the years, I can keep track). The #30 is because 2013 was my 30th year of knifemaking. The "dot" mark is probably where my heat treater checked the Rockwell hardness of the blade. It should be 58-60Rc.

I believe this knife had purple pins in a black G-10 handle. The spacers should be "Moonglow" material. If you 'charge' it by placing it near a flashlight or houselight, it should glow in the dark for hours.

The sheath is set up for reverse grip. By pulling it forward and up, the draw should be pretty fast. The Spyderco clip can be set up many different ways. Inside, outside, vertical, horizontal, left, right, or angled. The clip holes are reinforced with #8 eyelets. It is also compatible with a small Tec-Loc if you want to change it.

I love the Hawkbill design because it contours to body parts. It controls and cuts at the same time. I would recommend the Spyderco Sharpmaker sharpener for any of your blades. It is pretty foolproof. I have a few very nasty claw designs in the works for 2014."

The price is $200 shipped via Priority Mail. Zelle preferred or PP F&F. Email larry44 AT gmail.com.

The Bark River Knife & Tool Company Mini Northstar Limited Edition

20230606_172957.jpg20230606_173016.jpg Mini-North Star is a versatile knife specifically designed as an EDC that has crossover use in Light Hiking - Hunting Tasks and Bushcraft. The Knife is a scaled down version of the North Star Bushcraft Knife. The Mini-North Star is as compact as we could go but still have a more than a usable small version of the North Star. The idea is to have plenty of handle and still be absolutely easy to carry. The handle slabs are thinner than the North Star but are perfect for EDC. We retained the pointed spear point blade of the North Star for its overall wide application of usage. You will find this knife both practical and easy to carry. The Sharpshooter Sheath Systems leather sheath is a very compact wrap around design that rides very close and tight to the body. Specifications: Overall Length: 7.125" Blade Length: 3.4" Blade Steel: 12C27 S.S. @ 58rc Steel Thickness: .118 " Weight: 2.9 oz. Handle: Black Linen Micarta.

Price is $200 shipped Priority Mail. Zelle preferred or PP F&F. Email larry44 AT gmail.com.

Goddard, Wayne

Wayne Goddard started making knives in the 1960’s. He was a full time knife maker by 1963. Wayne continued making knives and started writing and teaching others how to make knives. Wayne wrote the question and answer column for Blade Magazine for many years. He was a longtime member of The Knifemakers Guild, and an ABS Mastersmith. Inducted into the Blade Magazine Cutlery Hall f Fame in 2013. In the 1990’s, Wayne worked on a collaboration with Spyderco, Inc to manufacture a line of knives. There were 17 variations of this classic line produced, in 3 different sizes. The last knife style was manufactured around 2013. He worked in his shop with his son Steve again for about 3 years from 2013 – 2016. Wayne passed away in 2018.

I bought it in December, 2013 from Arizona Custom Knives and had the sheath made on receipt.
