Which one would you get?

SOG Powerlock

SOG Powerplier

Leatherman Crunch

Leatherman Supertool 200

My vote goes to the Supertool first then whichever
Sog tool you'd favor. The Crunch is a good tool but
it's just to specialized for most folk's.

I'm not gonna vote because I think I might unfairly obscure your poll but I just sold a multitool that was hardly ever used because I find that as far as utility goes I was much better served by a Swiss Army Knife (Victorinox) "Climber" and a pair of regular needle nose pliers. Pliers are easy to keep in a pack and leave a pair in your car. Plus, the steel in the SAK's appear to be better IMO and the durability for the pliers is much better than the multitools.

Of course that's my opinion and many would disagree.

Actually, I would choose the SOG Deluxe Pocket PowerPlier, but that one wasn't on your list, so I voted for it's cousin, the "PowerPlier".

Another vote for the SwissTool (the 'X' specifically).

Forgive the unsolicited 'other' reccomendation.

SOG Powerlock all the way; it's top of the line. I have a Victorinox SwissTool and love it, but it is just too big and heavy.

Mith.

The Wave rocks, and the little blue one with the pliers is even better!

I never understood the argument that a Multi-Tool could be "Too Big and Heavy". Unless you are carrying it on a string tied to the end of your weiner, what possible difference could an ounce or two make in a pouch on your belt? I NEVER even notice my SwissTool on my belt. Even the biggest Multi-Tool (probably the swisstool?) doesn't even come CLOSE to being 'too big'. If they made one even bigger with bigger tools, or maybe a few more tools I'd carry that one. Of course there are limits, but I know of no multi-tool that approaches them.

I can see that MAYBE it might make a small difference if you carried it in your pocket rather than on your belt, but I carry a Pistol with a spare magazine daily in my RFP which weighs quite a bit more than ANY Multi-Tool, and I usually don't even notice it.

Just my couple o' pennies...

hi this is my first post on this forum . i have carried a victorinox swisstool everyday for the last 3 years . yes i know its heavy but you soon get used to it .the first multi tool i owned was the original leatherman survival tool , it didnt take long before there was lots of play in the pliers and i sold it to buy a gerber 600 scout , this was great until after about two weeks all the screws started to work loose on the handles then the awl or "sharp thing to get stones out of horses hoves" broke when trying to make a small hole in a bit of thin plastic , i sold this then bought the swisstool and havnt looked backed since. the previous tools i owned for weeks and failed but the swisstool is going on after 3 years and i cant fault it . to sum it up if the sh*t really hit the fan i wouldnt want any other multitool with me other than the victorinox swisstool (and after 3 years i still cant believe how little ware there is on the tool , everythig is still tight with no play ). i hope this has been of help .

I actually posted this poll for my friend.

After using his Gerber multitool to hold a small pot of water over a campfire, one side of the pliers clamp broke off.

Now he is looking for a replacement.

I originally thought of the SOG Powerlock as the toughest, but probably not the most versatile. After a little research I found that there are quite a few different multi-tools out there.

So, is the Swisstool the leading favorite?

The poll is pretty funny, it has a fairly even distribution.

i have read quite a lot of threads and posts and it always comes down to the leatherman wave , supertool and swisstool. As ive never owned a wave or a supertool i cant comment
on how good they are, but i have read that the wave gets sloppy over time . the swisstool can access all its tools without opening the pliers which cant be said about many of the others. also when you open the swisstools blades the bottom edge of the blade is at the bottom of the tool , its hard to explain whithout being able to post a pic but the cutting edge is inline with the bottom of the tool which if you understand what im saying makes a huge difference to the tool you might be looking to purchase

I would say that we proud SwissTool owners are more of a loud minority than a majority, but I did try a great many tools before settling on the SwissTool. I can't claim any special qualifications for 'knowing' what makes a great tool, but I AM very picky!!!

At the very least, I would tell him to check out the SwissTool. He can go see one in person at any Lowe's Home Improvement.

Also, tell your friend to send his Broken Tool back to Gerber at:

Gerber Legendary Blades
ATTN: Service Department
14200 SW 72nd Ave.
Portland, OR 97224

I'm not the biggest fan of their gear, but their customer service is great. The last Tool I sent to them, they repaired AND replaced, leaving me with 2 Tools. Good Deal!!! Even if he doesn't want to use the replacement, he can keep it as a spare or give it to someone else.

With a WAVE in my briefcase and a Micra in my pocket, I can do almost anything.

Add a Cybertool 29 and an Amphibian and I'm really ready to go....:)

Seriously, If I carried it on my belt, maybe I wouldn't notice the extra size of a Swisstool over a WAVE, but in a briefcase with a LOT of other stuff, the WAVE seems to be the ideal compromise to me.

YMMV
